Thank you for that link. That absolutely makes sense. I'll not complain again :)
I'd really like to understand why posts like this often get flagged on HN. It's not because of flamewar in the comments section, is it? The upvotes/comments ratio looks normal to me. Can someone explain? In any case, thanks to the OP for the link.

Show HN: Replace emails and phone numbers with <ob-fus-ca-ted>

https://github.com/hirasso/html-obfuscator

Hey HN!A few weeks ago I read https://spencermortensen.com/articles/email-obfuscation/.And I was so inspired that I built my own:https://github.com/hirasso/html-obfuscatorThe "killer feature" is that it uses a closed shadow root to hide sensitive data in plain sight. Visible to humans, but invisible to crawlers and even headless bots, if the do not interact with the page.On interaction, the...

Show HN: My Approach to HTML Obfuscation

https://github.com/hirasso/html-obfuscator

Hey HN!After reading this article about email obfuscation [0] a few weeks ago, I build html-obfuscator. And I'm awfully proud of the result!I know obfuscation is not new (haha)... but I think I found a very nice way to obfuscate content without disrupting the user experience (closed shadow root!).I hope the demo [1] makes it clear enough how it works.I'd love to get a few people to look at...

Do you have a link for me? I'd like to learn them, but find it really hard to find them.

For example, I had never heard about etc/services until 2 minutes ago

I'll make this my new source of truth. Thank you!!!
For what it's worth: they live up to their own standards. Here, for example, is the source code that powers their VIP platform product:

https://github.com/Automattic/vip-go-mu-plugins

It must be open sourced because it's based on WordPress. I still love that.

Re:You can make up HTML tags on Monday December 29, 2025 @02:53AM (#46418412)
See my other comment: you can set default styles using

:where(:not(:defined)) { display: block }

Re:You can make up HTML tags on Monday December 29, 2025 @02:52AM (#46418402)
simply only ever use this to replace <span> or <div>
Re:You can make up HTML tags on Monday December 29, 2025 @12:54AM (#46417871)
Beware that connectedCallback runs _every time_ a custom element is added to the dom. So you should make sure to only add event listeners once by tracking internally if the element was already initialized.
Re:You can make up HTML tags on Monday December 29, 2025 @12:27AM (#46417756)
This is how you can set default styles for all your custom elements:

    :where(:not(:defined)) {
         display: block;
    }

Because I‘m good in it. And my clients don‘t depend on me - they can choose to continue working with me not because I‘m the only one who knows how the language works, but because they WANT to.
