Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Saturday October 24, 2026 @10:33PM (#50227722)
If anything, AI could have prevented this strike by invalidating stale targeting data. The school building had originally been part of an IRGC military installation, then was physically separated about ten years ago. Satellite data would have made it abundantly clear that it was functioning as a school. A human in the loop could have prevented this tragedy by looking at the satellite data, but so could an AI system.
Which one? Been tempted to try this

He certainly wasn’t when he wrote this, and I don’t see how you’d read this as mocking. He was a crust punk living in a squat, fixing it up with scrap lumber he salvaged from pallets. His financial position was not so different from the scrappers when writing this story.

Re:Zed DeltaDB on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @10:38PM (#49191764)
To all the people complaining about not getting upstream fixes.. why don't you just fork it and fix it for yourself? The cost and difficulty of that is on the floor.

Genuine question, and to be clear I don't think you're wrong to be frustrated with upstream Zed

Re:Can a MUD evaluate LLMs? A $99 proof of concept on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @04:27PM (#49012954)
I highly recommend it, and for those who don't have the time to grind, you can join the shattered server where 24/7 scripting is allowed and encouraged. F2P subscriptions don't work on that server, unfortunately, but it has been a great hobby for someone like me who used to play back in the day but could never play it without scripting due to time constraints.
Just curious, how do you feel about using AI to help write the sermons?
Thanks, I missed that during my read of it
Why a tarball?
Re:My thoughts after using Clojure for about a month on Tuesday June 02, 2026 @10:19PM (#48379088)
What kind of software actually requires this? Honest question. Anything I can think of would probably be written by C++ devs
Re:3000 tokens/sec LLM playground on Friday May 29, 2026 @11:25AM (#48324361)
I don't think you're missing anything, the speed is the impressive thing but the model is limited. Perhaps Chatjimmy is more impressive in this respect. Most people haven't tried either
Don't miss trying their demo: https://playground.kog.ai/

Feels like a preview of the future

Actually getting to use this is different than just reading about it. Feels like a preview of the future.

Re:Sierra Raises $950M at $15B Valuation on Tuesday May 05, 2026 @09:41AM (#48022451)
looks like it! didn't know about yosemite's half dome but that makes perfect sense considering it's in the Sierra nevada mountain range. It's gonna have to stay an orca in my headcanon though
Re:Sierra Raises $950M at $15B Valuation on Monday May 04, 2026 @02:09PM (#48012537)
It occurs to me just now that the logo is in fact a mountain and not a breaching Orca whale like I'd always thought
Just got an email this morning saying my monthly $3 donation went through, and this article reminded me how the internet archive is truly the internet’s library and very worthwhile to support
So, you’re telling me the Finn won?

Anyone know how necessary UPnP is? From what I can tell, this setup does not run UPnP for automatic port forwarding

Re:Director Rob Reiner dead at 78 on Monday December 15, 2025 @11:38AM (#46276765)
You might enjoy the pandemic-era Princess Bride Home Movie, which Rob Reiner and his father Carl Reiner had a scene in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29s1yU3nGkQ

It's a crowdsourced home-movie version produced by dozens of actors in the midst of pandemic lockdown, recording on their phones and using home made props. The actors rotate through the individual roles so you get a real range of performances. I found it delightful.

Worth checking out the opening scene to get a sense of it

Do you mean train time?
Is there an affordable service for doing something like this?
Re: on Friday October 03, 2025 @07:16PM (#45468896)
This study came out June 1 2025 so it doesn’t cover more recent developments, but it’s fairly comprehensive in its treatment of the issue during prior timeframe: https://besacenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/213-2.9.20...

Specifically pages 10-14 for an intermediate summary, or pages 29-30 for a shorter one, with chapter 1 providing the full details.

Curious to hear your thoughts if any
