Re:50% of U.S. vinyl buyers don't own a record player on Friday January 02, 2026 @10:55PM (#46472638)
yeah, those crazy people who gift vinyl to people and collectors who want to make a profit are craaaazy people. (this is sarcasm, these are normal things (not at all an exhaustive list) that might make you buy a vinyl without owning a turntable)

also, we're probably getting some really good stats with this stuff with the folks buying at their local record store, right?

by the way, what was the phrasing of the question they used to get this information?

Re:macOS Multi-Monitor Problems on Thursday May 12, 2022 @11:12PM (#31362864)
On M1, there's no way to disable the internal monitor on a laptop. On Intel there is a flaky & unsupported boot arg: niog=1

On Windows, this is the most trivial task in the world.

Re:Reverse-Engineering Apple Dictionary (2020) on Sunday September 12, 2021 @08:33PM (#28506578)
This was an amazingly delightful read. I was hoping it would shed some light on a long-time project I had which was reversing the Oxford language dictionaries that were included on CDROM with the big printed texts. (I already did it, but with a debugger instead of by reversing the binary format). Alas, it did not, but it was super encouraging to see the enthusiasm and interest in language dictionaries.
Re:The worst volume control UI in the world (2017) on Tuesday July 13, 2021 @08:08PM (#27827769)
In fairness, it's lightly curated, or perhaps just misses a bunch.
Re:EFF sues Proctorio on behalf of student falsely DMCA'd on Thursday April 22, 2021 @07:27PM (#26909363)
It's endemic. I think critical mass at this point would just be a single case such as this one to catch fire in the national media. Something is missing from the equation and my guess is maybe deep pockets or familiar actors.
