Re:AI is destroying my CS degree on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @12:46PM (#50355354)
The solution is closed notes assessment, without any electronics used.

If tests evaluate understanding is up for debate. But that is what we switched to in the sciences.

Universities are going to have a reckoning moment, as most degrees 1) are not economically viable and 2) don't make sense to be taught in the current mode of instruction.

Lool it is probably onlyfans client management software.
Re:WTF Ubuntu? on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:27PM (#50341281)
This is the straw that broke the camel's back. I am moving back to Debian stable now. Having NVIDIA drivers and Wlan drivers back in 2014 was great, but this is not acceptable.
There is enough competition, so it is not likely that we will see a rug pull. Just switch to deepseek/qwen/glm. Chinese models are good, maybe 3mo behind Claude/GPT, and IMO at the same level as Gemini.
I’d like to start something like this, do you mind sharing what kind of business analytics it is?

Is the new Siri perceptibly slowing down iOS?

I have a 16 pro max. When the new Apple Intelligence is active I noticed that it takes forever to search for an app eg you type in calc for calculator and there is a perceptive pause before it appears. After turning Siri off it is gone and search is back to instant.

Re:AI is a tool and using it well takes skill on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:31PM (#50082040)
No, the real test is if you can talk coherently about AI acquired knowledge to someone else. And there’s a lot that I’ve learned that I can now talk to other people about to coherently no agent involved.
Re:How California Closed the Montana License Plate Loophole on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @10:31AM (#49993413)
Based on the number of Hawaii/east coast/even a couple US forces (Germany) plates you see on the road near major bases in the Kitsap peninsula in WA…quite a few.
Re:PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock on Saturday September 26, 2026 @06:19PM (#49861084)
Looking at YouTube shorts on my cellphone (iPhone with hacked https://github.com/NeonKokoro/KiraTuno hacked yt client) was becoming a problem. So I got rid of the app. Too many shorts too much brain rot.
Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @09:42AM (#49801171)
This is why I sold my macbook and switched back to Linux. I don't want your stupid cloud/ai services. If I want to rm -rf / then the system better do that.
Re:Almost Never Use AI to Write Anything Substantive on Saturday September 19, 2026 @11:00PM (#49772179)
I use AI to write all the time. It can write better than I can. This article is wayyy to pretentious.
Re:AI Safety Is Mostly a Sex Cult on Thursday September 17, 2026 @06:39PM (#49747660)
The real question is where is the Epstein link here?
Automated testing, but yes it writes production code all the time. I review all the code.
Re:Ask HN: What default model do you use and why? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @10:21PM (#49691117)
Now: Fable 5.1 medium effort for heavy computational (evolutionary) biology and everything else on the $100/mo max plan. It's great. 6mo from now: deepseek assuming the US AI industry insists on self-pwning.
Re:We Must Pace the Frontier on Saturday September 12, 2026 @05:47PM (#49677546)
Ok so Anthropic CEO will self-own themselves and surrender to the deepseek/kimi/glm models. Yet they are IPOing later this year.

Interesting times.

Re:Claude is no longer available for minors on Friday September 11, 2026 @04:14PM (#49664709)
If you want to make a child-safe website that is OK, it can go be in it's walled garden g-rated brand-safe reality. But that is retarded. The rest of the internet still exists, and will not stop existing. Porn/defense distributed/much more insidious things will still exist.

All the age verification is is creeping totalitarianism by governments.

Re:Why doesn't a Cursor for Word exist? on Thursday September 10, 2026 @04:30PM (#49649761)
The claude plugin with Opus 5 / Fable5.1 works well in my experience. Diffs are not supported yet but maybe in the future? Although the claude plugin does stage edits before applying them so you can selectively apply them and [hopefully] not get contextually overloaded.
Re:iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:38PM (#49634774)
$1199 for a variable aperture camera + 12gb of ram. Why not add stylus support?

Wait, that is gated to the $1999 duo device, with untested reliability.

These are the main scifi works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consider_Phlebas, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Player_of_Games, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three-Body_Problem_(novel).

But I do think we are not anywhere close to AI competency for fine motor skills, e.g. microinjection to make transgenic animals (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8361322/figure/fig2...)at scale is still really difficult.

It is also unlikely that AI will start a skynet-like scenario as those nuclear launch systems are air gapped and require multiple authorizations.

It's like the sci-fi of my childhood dreams is coming true! So no, I feel the opposite. The government and the AI companies realize that it will drastically change the economy and society, and is not going to legislate it out of existence.

Instead of USA vs Russia, it is now USA vs PRC. SO if either slows down, the other will win by default. So no one is going to slow down.
