Understanding REST API? Do They Rest?
?
The internet is full of blogs and resources on how to get started with open source, and let's be honest, they can all start to sound the same after a while. Here's my take on what beginners should focus on:
.
This is crucial. Don't just jump into the biggest project you can find. Look for something that aligns with your interests and skill set.' . There are tons of ways to contribute to an open-source project, even if you don't have a ton of coding experience. You can help with documentation, testing, or even just reporting bugs.
. The open-source community is one of the most supportive and welcoming communities in tech. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get help when you need it.
How to start your Open Source journey
Also, are there any tools that can help with documenting or visualizing different API design options?
Any resources or advice for someone new to API design?
As a newcomer to API design, I'm grappling with the differences between REST and GraphQL APIs. Specifically, the trade-offs between them are a bit confusing. Are there any recommended resources or general advice for beginners like myself trying to navigate API design choices?
Unfamiliarity: Debuggers can seem intimidating at first, especially for those new to coding. Specific use cases: Debuggers shine for complex logic or unexpected behavior, but for simpler tasks, console.logs might suffice. If you're comfortable, you could offer to walk them through a simple debugging session using VS Code or the browser's devtools. Seeing the power of breakpoints and variable inspection firsthand can be a game-changer!
Challenge yourself with a project that pushes your boundaries: Look for open-source projects you can contribute to, or brainstorm a personal project that requires you to learn new skills. This will expose you to different coding styles and approaches, accelerating your growth.
There are tools that can help with both approaches, but that's a topic for another day ;)
