Question: If God made man(intelligent design), you open a whole new plethora of questions, including "Who made God", and we're back to square one.
Re:No more JavaScript frameworks on Tuesday December 23, 2014 @11:53PM (#8791597)
So the author wants to use Javascript more for hacky stuff rather than a proper set of conventions?
Re:“Start Rails 5 development” on Saturday November 29, 2014 @02:19AM (#8673314)
I think it's shipping with its own background processor, Active Jobs. Sounds good!
Re:Where Did Time Come From, and Why Does It Seem to Flow? on Tuesday October 28, 2014 @09:48AM (#8520899)
"For example, there are famous experiments in which people apparently make free decisions at certain moments and yet it’s found that the decision was actually made a little bit earlier, but their own perception of time and their actions within time have been sort of edited after the event"

This would also be the only way to simulate consciousness in AI. Makes total sense. We're AI.

Looks like the site's crashing. This is a conspiracy.
Re:Calories in, calories out on Thursday October 23, 2014 @10:15PM (#8501823)
In bodybuilding terms, "cutting" is being under calorie deficit. It can wreak havoc with your mood systems and that's why people can't keep it up. Start small.

Re:Ask HN: Making money as an undergrad on Thursday March 13, 2014 @04:55AM (#7390681)
Hey, I'm a 21 year old undergrad who's been freelancing part time. I primarily use oDesk and as long as you have a good understanding of english you've pretty much got most jobs under your belt. Execution, however depends on your skillset. I started out at $5 per hour back in 2011. These days I make(on average) $100/hour working on small-medium tier Ruby on Rails and general front-end projects.

Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for!

Re:Making ActiveRecord 2x faster on Thursday February 20, 2014 @01:56AM (#7269332)
"Ruby has a reputation for being slow"

Web services that DO use Ruby today are almost always IO bound. For web services that don't require data crunching CPU bound processes, Ruby as a language is hardly the bottleneck.

Re:Are we shooting ourselves in the foot with stack overflows? on Tuesday February 18, 2014 @10:43PM (#7261665)
I think cars should just come with slots where we could put in our phones and bam!, powerful computing that you could carry along.

Your blog breaks responsivity on my phone. Horizontal scrolling somehow got in there, you might want to take a look. Nice article BTW!
