Re:Amazon's Secret Weapon in Chip Design Is Amazon on Monday September 16, 2024 @10:27AM (#41556449)
OK, I know this is a bit off topic, but Prime (as a shopper) and Amazon quality of products is definitely tanking in my opinion. Has anyone had good experience with Walmart+? I've considered switching, but I'm skeptical.

Yup! Thats the one - works great.
Re:My Obsidian note-taking workflow on Sunday July 28, 2024 @10:10AM (#41093267)
There is a git sync community plugin and it works well on phones.
Re:Foliate: Read e-books in style, navigate with ease on Friday July 19, 2024 @10:45AM (#41007068)
I love this on my laptop - but struggling for iOS - particularly iPad - any good suggestions? I just want to read books, keep my place and not have any ads -is this that hard?

I just stumbled upon this and it was such a blast from the past - I had to share.

~/projects/<repo>

This is one of the first things I install on new linux machines - such a great tool.
Re:What is a good machine to run LLM's on? on Friday April 26, 2024 @11:16PM (#40176822)
Thank you!
oh wow. I don't know how I missed this.
I looked at Akaunting, but the licensing was not appealing. I've used Invoice Ninja (https://www.invoiceninja.org/) for over a year now. I pay for the white label and have had minimal issues.
Re:Owl for Exchange (Thunderbird Plugin) on Friday April 05, 2024 @08:05AM (#39941346)
With the new Outlook’s miserable data collection policies, some of us don’t want to use Outlook but still need access to an exchange based mailbox. I’ve been using this for about a year and it works really well. Not affiliated, just a happy customer.
Personally, I'm looking forward to this from Minisforum: https://www.minisforum.com/page/v3/index.html?lang=en

I don't know how well it will run linux (Pop to be specific) but I've got 3 other Minisforum AMD machines and they all run Pop great!

Re:Show HN: Free Certificate Monitoring via RSS on Monday February 26, 2024 @10:04PM (#39519674)
Uptime Kuma can also monitor certificate expiration; you can also enable it to show you how many days are left until it expires.

Re:My productivity app is a never-ending .txt file (2022) on Monday February 19, 2024 @03:00PM (#39434032)
I also use a simple text file, but for sake of context switching - I have one file for one topic - account x has a file, account y has a file, topic z has a file and everything related to it goes in. This is all now curated in my Obsidian vault that is synced via the fantastic Git plugin.
This. What better publicity could you ask for?? (I love mine and use it for harmless things)
Re:Apple releases MGIE, an AI-based image editing model on Wednesday February 07, 2024 @01:26PM (#39292225)
I think you are spot on - looking back at all this its really interesting -like what on earth was Apple thinking when the Motorola ROKR came out?

Self-hosted Nextcloud would be good for this
Re:Duplicity on Thursday January 25, 2024 @08:39PM (#39137948)
I like the one-repository approach as it works well - it resides on my NAS which is always on and it is a local backup for multiple machines. From there, I replicate to B2 as an emergency copy in the event my NAS (RAID is not backup!) dies or something horrific. I tried to make it future-proof as much as possible too - with Duplicacy, you can easily clone/copy repositories so new hardware migration will be extremely simple. Not only simple with local hardware, but easy to migrate to a different cloud storage as well. Just don't lose your repository encryption key!
Re:Duplicity on Wednesday January 24, 2024 @02:38PM (#39121713)
Duplicacy for me has been amazing - I use it to backup all of my machines nightly all consolidated into 1 repo that is copied to B2 and it works amazingly. I've restored plenty and have not had any issues.
Re:Flipper Zero: Multi-Tool Device for Geeks on Tuesday January 23, 2024 @11:06AM (#39105209)
Thank you for this - It is really more of a backup/testing since I leave my Flipper at home 99% of the time and rely on my real Yubi for a few things. Mainly Github which was just because I can.
Re:Flipper Zero: Multi-Tool Device for Geeks on Monday January 22, 2024 @11:45AM (#39091608)
I have found it pretty useful in a few situations: - USB/Mouse keyboard when the iMac you are working on has totally dead batteries for the mouse/keyboard- its not fun but works in a pinch.

- Cloning weird ceiling fans/lights. Apparently I've bought horrible remotes but this helped.

- Used this as a nightstand clock while traveling.

- Used the authenticator app as a backup Yubi key

- Mouse jiggler to keep a computer awake

- blasting tvs at restaurants is a ton of fun and my kids like that.

- And the IR functionality for Nerf Laser Ops Pro (IR laser tag) is an absolute blast - the actual Nerf guns have a delayed trigger, but with Flipper there is no delay or need to "reload" so you are an unstoppable beast.

Re:Why I Like Obsidian on Thursday January 18, 2024 @09:06AM (#39041795)
It does so far - I have not had more than 3 or 4 commits in a single push though so it hasn't broken for me yet. The notes said that if you do have many changes it can run out of memory due to the git plugin it is using.
Re:Why I Like Obsidian on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @09:39AM (#39028296)
This is the one - it works great. I also use it in iOS, but I needed to use the Working Copy workaround to get the initial sync complete. https://forum.obsidian.md/t/mobile-setting-up-ios-git-based-...
Re:Why I Like Obsidian on Wednesday January 17, 2024 @08:53AM (#39027658)
Just last week I fully committed to Obsidian with the git sync plugin. It took some fiddling and a bit of trust to sync 4 years of notes. (Previously I was just using Sublime Text and my notes folder as a project hooked up to my gitea instance.) But now, its like second nature and I'm looking for neat plugins that you cant live with out.
