Can I just say “China going after TSMC” is one of the silliest ideas I’ve heard.

I know people discuss it as plausible in some way, but you only need to think for a microsecond to work out it’s not.

There’s so many reasons why they’d end up with zero that there’s little point even starting to articulate them.

Yeah but long range missions require people cause latency is a xitch.

These are the planes that the military builds when in peacetime controlled by vested interests.

In a real war there would be a much sharper focus on building planes that can fight and win. But that what the enemies of the US are already doing and it’ll be too late for the US when it needs the right planes.

The US is focused on building complex overly technology focused boondoggle machines that take far to long to design and build and cost too much and underperform.

It’s a robot war future anyway.

Bumble gave him a cake for five years service recently, so the company can’t be that bad really.

https://twitter.com/arkann1985/status/1446071099989663745?s=...

Surely we can overlook the whole “give us your damn open source personal projects copyright grab or you’ll be chewing on big legal problems buddy” thing given the companies generosity with cake?

The cake shows that Bumble really are good people.

Reminds me of those famous words “speak softly and carry a big cake”.

Seems exceedingly unlikely to me.

So true. All software should be written without mistakes. Strange no one takes this obvious approach.
Googles neural voices are much better than any of Amazon’s.
Anchor Spotify rss I have none of those. I have Apple podcasts.
How would I have known if I didn’t click?

Did I want to complain? No, I wanted to listen to it.

Extraordinary proof required.
Podcast are available on podcast platforms.

I don’t have Spotify or anchor.

Further to this …. following the technical advice of Netflix on AWS may well bankrupt you given how low Netflix pays for AWS.

I wouldn’t be racing to emulate the way they do things.

This project needs marketing people on the team.

I’m interested in peertube it’s an exciting concept. When I when to that page I expected a simple, clean design inviting me to download it or use it or whatever. Instead there’s a rambling unfocused page without a call to action.

YouTube is the Mike Tyson of video…. you’ve gotta be much better than this to get in the ring with YouTube.

Surely Netflix pays only a small fraction of list price for AWS.

I wonder how that reduced price might influence the technical advice from Netflix.

Re:UK regulator set to block Meta's Giphy deal on Monday November 29, 2021 @05:37AM (#29378258)
Yes I think it’s flipping bonkers that a funny picture company can’t be acquired because it’s a competitive threat.

It’s too silly for words really.

It’d be a Monty Python sketch except it’s real.

Or a children’s story in which the wicked witch steals all the worlds smiles and no one can smile again until the spell is broken.

Only in the UK.

The only thing more ridiculous than Facebook not being allowed to buy the funny picture company, is the fact that Facebook is spending $400,000,000 on a funny picture company.

Layer upon layer of crazy.

Re:UK regulator set to block Meta's Giphy deal on Monday November 29, 2021 @04:11AM (#29377763)
Things will become very sad on the other social networks.

Zuckerberg is ruthless in his determination to own all the funny gifs and good times.

It’s not fair cause nothing will be left for Twitter, making it all just people yelling at each other and no one laughing at funny cats and memes.

If this deal is not stopped then Zuckerberg will have bought much of the worlds supply of laughs. He’s shown he’s willing to use those laughs against us.

It’s a dystopian future that I’m glad the UK is standing up against. Thank god there’s a democracy that stands against such devastating overreach.

We suspect zuckerberg’s grand plan is to lock away all the worlds laughs in a big vault so no one can get them, and finally the world will be under his control. Unless The Incredibles are sent in to Facebook headquarters to break in and steal the worlds sense of humor back.

Re:UK regulator set to block Meta's Giphy deal on Monday November 29, 2021 @04:06AM (#29377731)
I couldn’t read the article but am I right in understanding the UK regulators think Facebook shouldn’t buy a funny gif company?

Good thing brexit has prevented the UK from all those crazy euro rules and regulations.

Re:Tell HN: Why Foundation (TV series) sucks. And doesn't. on Saturday November 27, 2021 @01:57AM (#29358171)
I felt that Peter Jackson butchered Lord of The Rings.

There was no reason for all the changes he made and many of them were stupid and offensive such as dwarves being portrayed sort of like clowns.

There were many great things about Jackson’s LOTR but overall it was a real disappointment. The Hobbit was truly garbage.

The early shuffle mini.
The best thing I ever used was iPod shuffle mini.

It was the perfect design, nothing could be added nor taken away to make it better.

But apple being Apple they redesigned it to be crap then discontinued it.

On the topic of designing great things and Apple …. Can I say that I hate Apples “minimalism above all else” approach to design. For example I want computers with lots of ports - what’s the point in buying a minimal Apple computer only to instantly plug it into another box that provides the basic ports I need for keyboard mouse external disks and camera? Somehow though the designers at Apple think this is the optimum design. I do acknowledge recent Macs bring ports back but still not enough.

I also hate it that Apple got rid of the standard headphone jack - for gods sake why? Answer: Apple designers.

Bialetti is at risk of going out of business so buy them while you can.
