Re:Anduril Partners with Qualcomm to Build Laptops on US Soil on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:30PM (#50265343)
And, with monitoring companies like Flock doing so well, and a thirst for intel within every US administration, why wouldn't this have backdoors for Anduril built right in?
Re:Elon Musk and AI rivals pledge to give away nearly $300B on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @04:27PM (#50265306)
Thank you. I didn't mean to cast shade on posting a link with a paywall. Thanks to HN (perhaps some of your shares) I picked up a WP subscription, though when editorial intrusion got too obvious I turned it off. I see you post generously and it's often of interest to me.

Usually the first additional link to an article is an archive/non-paywall link. That the two links went to the same thing was really the point of my question.

How does the 2nd amendment protect you? Are you allowed automatic weapons, grenades? You're not even allowed swords. And if you call for violence, which is what the 2nd amendment might enable, you won't find protection via the 1st amendment.

See citizens and ICE.

"A" marketing for a "B" product usually wins over "B" marketing of an "A" product.
That is the point. Run HN and run YC are the same. HN and YC are different.
Without probable cause for a crime, they need to let you go, yes?
Re:Elon Musk and AI rivals pledge to give away nearly $300B on Friday October 23, 2026 @11:37AM (#50210798)
Why 2 links (2 paywalls) to the same article? Just curious.
If this seems familiar, it's from March 2018. If it's not, well, time to read it.
This is why China is so safe. You want safety in a society as anti-social as ours, you need a police state. It's not sufficient, but it's necessary. Cleaning up the people that cause the problems is hard.
Not only has that ship sailed, our own computers are at risk.
Also, Russia has clearly established itself as a source of failures. In the same way that Europe and Canada should be weaning themselves from the USA for lighter-duty yet valid issues, they should really further disentangle themselves from the Russian economy if possible.
"Makes claims". Things aren't expensive when you have money to pay for them. He misses the point entirely.
For that employer, it's going to be normal, and employees won't be looking. In the USA, managment dictates all terms of employment, take it or leave it.
This isn't policy this is just a tactic. Ignoring history.
This will fire up the jihadis and encourage the cycle. Very different than the obscurity into which the mastermind of the World Trade Center truck bombing was thrown.
Christianity and Christ are two separate things. The names of political affiliations rarely capture the actual goals of the policies. Conservatives are against preserving many things, and liberals are against allowing many things.
Re:Peter Thiel's new Antichrist warnings on Thursday October 08, 2026 @02:17PM (#50009728)
Why wouldn't the Antichrist be spreading warnings about someone/thing else being the Antichrist? If he doesn't misdirect people, they could suspect him. Heck, he could even charge $100/head to peddle his lies.
Re:Margaret Hamilton has died on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @08:44PM (#50000670)
This feels like the top honor.
There is little to prevent this type of fraud increasing. A new type of insider threat is gathering oral communications from conversations and meetings to clone voice mannerisms and phrasings.
following the faith, but not necessarily acting like Christ. Talking the talk without walking the walk, if you will.
Consider that the mitochondria in your body's cells were, long ago, separate cells living their best lives until they were engulfed and enslaved for their energy output. It has ever been so.
Sort of metaphorical, eh?
Americans are not, as a group, well-equipped to think about a future that is more expensive or more difficult than the past.
Re:The last time my family was replaced by technology on Thursday October 01, 2026 @06:41PM (#49927914)
This transition will be a lot slower than the shocks that produced depressions and recessions. A couple of good wars will thin the herd, which is how populations have been weeded out in earlier times.

Public works projects need funding and purpose. I'm not optimistic about what purposes the make-work funding gets applied to these days. Public beauty, cleanliness, health are not in the priorities.

Horses absolutely are consumers. They eat, they drink. They just can't manipulate their environment to get more food or drink.

The human system relies on us doing stuff for each other, mediated by "money". We get "paid" by some other human for doing stuff for them. "Stealing" is discouraged. "Being given" is rare. "Money" originates from fiat, goes where it goes.

Humans unable to do for others don't get "paid", get starved/sick etc, experience pain, cause trouble and disappear eventually. When doing stuff for people is not done by people, the pay cycle breaks. When machines do a substantial fraction of economic activity (intangibles like decision-making, writing, answering the phone, etc. as well as transport), there is no need for very many people. Absent the need, there will be no support. The farms won't give their food away, they will arm themselves against the hungry.

There will be some human work. So long as machines cannot equal human touch and experience combined, there will be medicine. There will always be sex work. But who affords it?

Possibly racial disparities will diminish. A machine might actually give equal medical care to, or equally arrest, the Black and white person. Or not, depends on the training. Look who's developing the AIs.

Economists thought that economic development means democratic development. They were wrong, see China. They thought that economic liberalization means good governance. Wrong, see Russia. Economists are right about things until they are wrong, and we can all run off the cliff with them.

When the population drops (war, starvation, refusal to bear children) to the level needed to run the machines, the system will stabilize. Pretty much the horse scenario.

Re:Elon Musk Film Hit with Censorship on Sunday September 27, 2026 @05:16PM (#49870943)
A few free speech defenders are consistently consistent about supporting it, but for the most part they are concerned about freedom of their favored speech. Even the ACLU has appeared to waffle a bit.

Drop-shipping for the late 2020s and early 2030s.

Comsider the tracking potential.

Now consider that they can perform textual analysis at a scale large enough to figure out who you are based on your linguistic fingerprints across HN, Meta, Github, forms you've filled out for you child's school, your doctor, or wherever else a service provider has used them.

These are "AI" companies but monitoring is what the AI is and will be used for.

America has a worse problem with it than Israel does, it sort of is America's problem. It's not the Israeli army taking lead or Israel's diplomacy taking a hit.
