Re:MessagePack: like JSON, but fast and small on Tuesday March 10, 2020 @02:05PM (#22537870)
Do a speed test comparison as well. Serialization to msgpack is likely much quicker than json + gzip. This is for latency sensitive applications.
Thanks for the comparison against 23 and me but I’d be interested in how you plan to differ from Invitae/Fulgent/Myraid aside from the D2C aspects.
What are some good ways to avoid distractions? I often find myself watching YouTube/Netflix or on steam for endless hours before realizing it
I agree consider Singapore, massive pollution problems but one of the safest countries in the world.
I got downvoted to oblivion for reporting a bug to them, with several SO devs trying to explain it’s not a bug, this doesn’t surprise me.
Re:Hong Kong Exchanges Bids $39B to Take over London Stock Exchange on Wednesday September 11, 2019 @11:31AM (#20941210)
No, it’s about where money flows to avoid taxes. The comment suggested money will flow into the UK from Europe after Brexit to avoid tax, however Europe already has Luxembourg.

Europe (and HK) already have Luxembourg for that.
Re:Pension funds may be wrecked in a future recession on Tuesday September 03, 2019 @08:09AM (#20865732)
No it won’t, most companies no longer offer pensions for new employees and instead offer a 401K plan. The pension problem will go away over time.
Re:Interest Rates: Naturally Negative? on Wednesday August 14, 2019 @07:53AM (#20694532)
What’s 0.05% minus 1.5% inflation ? Negative
Re:Interest Rates: Naturally Negative? on Tuesday August 13, 2019 @04:59PM (#20690179)
It’s positive for now, in Europe the deposit accounts are negative as well for the most part.
Re:U.S. Designates China as Currency Manipulator on Tuesday August 06, 2019 @08:11AM (#20624393)
The main point behind the two currency system is to prevent money laundering. You can only convert offshore to onshore via state run banks. This also has the side effect of making it easier to control import and export flow thereby inflation.

The comment below about separate interest rates has nothing to do with this discussion.

Re:Tesla Roadster on Wednesday July 17, 2019 @08:57AM (#20458889)
Wait you even have to physically remove it ???
Yeah I’ll need to do some research, if I can only poll the db for just the time I need this will be a huge cost saving for me. I think the db only gets queried if a dag actually runs but I’m not 100% sure.
How well would this work with something like airflow ? If I have jobs that run only end of day for an hour on airflow, I pay just for an hour of the database ?
Re:Study Finds Ultra-Processed Foods Drive Weight Gain on Thursday May 16, 2019 @03:40PM (#19932309)
Did they control for food taste and preferences ? It could simply be the processed food happened to taste better as well. Not sure if pleasantness and familiarity cover that.
There are a few vendors built on top of multiple cloud vendors however they themselves become the lock in, zeit or Joyent are good examples of this.
It could be worse, imagine the inverse: You can’t do anything to make money; Every hobby is an attempt to have fun.
