I don't believe in souls. But people know what it "means" even if it's being used rhetorically not literally.
Re:Mathematics has changed. Let's act like it on Sunday November 01, 2026 @04:48PM (#50330252)
it's not just math and CS. it's a human trait. we are seeing it in the arts and creative fields where technology and AI in particular are making their impact felt. there will be much, much more of this sort of reaction in the years ahead. we'll all have to learn how to adapt. and in the process rediscover that what makes us valuable as people is not our skills but our souls.

The guardian is just lying more politely.
Even orgs like AP or Reuters cannot always be trusted. They do a more reasonable job in most cases, but this just makes it easier for when they do inevitably deploy influence operations bc they can hide behind their credibility.

you don't have to give yourself up to irrational, anxious feelings.

thx for the heads up :)

I recently finally fully moved all my projects away from .env (for local dev) to infisical, thinking it'd be the way to stop agents from (accidentally?) peeking at my secrets. while I'm still glad I made the move, it's clear that local agents are still moving around my local environment with sufficient privileges and autonomy to use infisical cli however it wants. my work isn't high stakes enough to matter much and I have rotation scripts on hand, but it's hard to see how to fully close the door against this type of risk at this point.
Re:Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT‑5.6 on Thursday July 30, 2026 @01:55PM (#49113378)
sama literally just said they wish they had bought more. the price drops are almost certainly due to good old fashioned hardware innovation (wafer scale with cerebras) and optimizing hardware development based on model architecture and inference costs. other inference providers will try to do the same if they can.

just bc the shah fled the country doesn't mean the us and uk were bad or even the root cause. same kind of simple-minded ignorance that led to Mossadegh's rise in the first place.
falsely accusing a people of committing a genocide is bad actually
there's much more to the story of Iran than the simple "oh of course the UK and US are bad"
Re:Be skeptical of OpenAI's rogue hacker agent story on Friday July 24, 2026 @04:59PM (#49041517)
add mass media outlets to that list
and his are bad.

You have to change the model to one that supports streaming. The latest parakeet does. I've been using it the last week or so. It's good stuff :)

Well we better figure out where it ought to come from then. Maybe AI can help us explore the latent space.

go outside right now and look up. it's still there.
Re:Shadcn/UI now defaults to Base UI instead of Radix on Sunday July 05, 2026 @11:33AM (#48795040)
that's precisely the objection most people have whether they realize it or not.

slop just means "I don't like this style"

when AI writes more reliably in a way that people do like, they will stop calling everything AI does slop.

you can still go outside at night and look up. get a grip.

I frequently hang out in my driveway in the early evenings shooting basketball and listening to podcasts. I'll see easily several dozen satellites over the course of the hour or two that I typically stay out there. and I don't even live out in the country or anything. I think mostly people are just not aware (yet?) of how rapidly the number of satellites have grown in the last couple years.

might be the first time I've seen this reasonable and obviously correct interpretation of the last 6-12 months so directly and unapologetically stated. bravo
the AI providers will experiment with sustainable ad models and users will demand transparency and responsibility. An equilibrium will be reached, I'm sure.
