History and this very thread should show you how this is a naive statement.

Re:H.264 Is Magic on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:16PM (#50292591)
That all depends on your use case.

How are you generating video?

How are you playing it back?

Re:H.264 Is Magic on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:13PM (#50292525)
That's all well and good, but let me know when I can buy a used $50 NUC or pi or such that has hw decoding of the same for my TV front ends.

What gives it away?
You misspelled crashes.
Re:I paid people to try and follow my README on Sunday October 11, 2026 @01:13PM (#50045431)
"All three clouds" is such a weird phrase.

There is no "cloud". There is other peoples hard drives.

But let's pretend the "clouds" you use are "clouds". Ok. What makes the other hosting providers not "clouds"? Bit of a no true Scotsman.

Exigent circumstances.
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @11:22PM (#49950297)
I'm ranting on and on about the 4th amendment and right to privacy and your conclusion is I wish I didn't contribute to the surveillance state first?

Really!

Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:29PM (#49949299)
Too busy day trading and vacationing to avoid uncomfortable votes.
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:28PM (#49949292)
This is wildly different than someone taking photos in public.

See Mosaic theory.

Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:28PM (#49949288)
Comedy is when you break your leg, tragedy is when I stub my toe?
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:27PM (#49949284)
"Yet you participate in society. Interesting!"
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:26PM (#49949280)
Yes. I'll bet fifty of what you like there's a demo on YouTube.
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:25PM (#49949269)
There's no difference between a BOLO and a panopticon dragnet of always on AI powered cameras?
Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:24PM (#49949260)
I've spent a lot of time pondering a startup built around local storage security cameras with OPTIONAL encrypted offsite storage.

I wonder if there is a market for this.

All my shit is local with local AI.

Re:Federal judge calls Flock 'indiscriminate mass surveillance' on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:22PM (#49949253)
Cameras are great. Especially with diverse ownership.

Police can walk about, ask or order (warrant) for footage.

A network of AI powered cameras linked to the hive mind controlled by real life super mega evil corp inc run by real life super villains... not so great.

Also the 4th amendment is a thing. Mosaic theory is a thing.

Enough of these flocking cameras.

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Friday October 02, 2026 @04:39AM (#49931234)
It gets me 10 internet points though.
Re:LinkedIn Larpmaxxing on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @05:19PM (#49914604)
Linkedin is a fucking cesspool. I refuse to participate.

Apparently my background is impressive enough that someone stole it and made a profile of me. To what end I do not know.

Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @05:07PM (#49914475)
Yet you participate in a society.
Stop saying accident when you really mean crash. Especially in the context of drunk driving.

Drunk driving is a conscious decision, not an accident.

... is it?

There's no obligation to purchase such cars.

Re:Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock on Monday September 28, 2026 @11:50AM (#49879976)
Would they be on the hook for same?

Is that not covered on contingency?

Re:Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock on Monday September 28, 2026 @11:49AM (#49879957)
The author has published on the topic and engaged in conversations on HN about the topic.

They're clearly ok with the topic being discussed and shared.

Moments notice!? Nothing?
Re:Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:17AM (#49874267)
It's already out there. You don't need to ask.
Re:Owed a billion dollars in Nvidia stock on Monday September 28, 2026 @02:15AM (#49874262)
You understand expected value right?

I'm not mathemagician, but a tiny fraction of a billion with a b dollars is worth filing.

If nothing else it gives us all an exciting news cycle.
