How much is Balkanization going to matter with these programs? Is everyone going to split into using dozens of different design tools?
I don't want to create files using some application that's just vibe-coded and won't be supported for very long. I'm sure that's not the case for some of these, but the prospect of finding the best software and verifying that it's here to stay seems like more work than just sticking with Fusion and OnShape.
Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I see multiple posts about some new drafting or design tool every day, and the cost of integrating them into any existing workflow seems high.
I'm not great with 3D modeling since I do it less than once a year. I wanted to model something, so I described it with Astra and it got it quite close to what I wanted. But it took like 40 minutes of total processing time to generate something quite simple. If I were good with Fusion I would have been done much sooner than the time Astra took.
Because there are thousand of PEs across the country and eventually if a job requires 100x less time to produce, PEs will just be rubber stamping stuff after a thorough final review. My firm has like a dozen electrical PEs and we all spend the vast majority of our time in coordination meetings, reviewing small details, and working on drawings. If all I have to do is spend a few hours checking something at the end, they don't need all of us for that anymore.
I've reviewed dozens of sets of city and state AHJ review comments for housing. They sometimes take a full year and give less attention to the plans than even the worst contractor. Some aren't that bad, but many just have boilerplate review comments that are completely irrelevant to my drawings.
I am too. Doesn't that concern you for the future? I've been meaning to connect it to Revit but haven't had the time.
Edit: I'm not sure how fast any of this will be adopted with how slowly things move in construction. I'm surprised people are still using AutoCAD and making a profit.
>It implies that you can know Anthropic's outcome from this slice of data.
No it doesn't. All I said was that given how little we have to go on and how early in the process we are, a minor 2nd or 3rd derivative slowdown isn't a positive signal. All indications are they they need additional orders of magnitude in revenue fairly soon.
I also never said that it wasn't self-propelled. I was starting to write about waiting to see if another stage of propulsion comes online but I deleted it.
People will point out that +46% is still good, but this is like measuring the escape velocity of a projectile that's still at 1000 feet. It's not that the projectile isn't going very fast or won't get very high, it's that if you want to have enough momentum to break out of Earth's gravitation pull you can hardly afford any deceleration.
Her? Are we really giving them pronouns now?
Reddit doesn't truly want to prevent bots necessarily. They want to drive engagement and time spent on their website.
So like peer to peer? What incentive is there to keep seeding?
No it hasn't, it still isn't even accepted in most of Academia.
how is that good? Certainly seems like a bleak future to me.
It has nothing to do with culture wars, I'm just a stickler for grammatical precision and not overloading the meanings of words.
They contribute to anthropomorphize them too. Anthropic skies that more though. The idea that they made a little being that can think and feel is so attractive to these folks for reasons I don't understand.
A lot of people don't accept it as such, including myself
it completely depends on the elasticity and shape of the supply and demand curves. Some will choose to reduce headcount, some will choose to build more. Depends on the business and the nature of the industry.
I enjoyed reading this, thanks
iOS at 60Hz is so much worse than Android at 60Hz, I don't know why. maybe Apple did it intentionally to sell more iphones
I think they made iOS run slower for 60Hz devices. Like 2-3 version ago they changed all the animations and it makes it unbearable to use my iPHone 17 on 60Hz when I used to prefer running my old Samsungs on 60Hz several years ago.
I'm sure that many aspects of work and specialization are as old as humanity itself. Don't you think there was one guy in the tribe who was really good at starting fires, one woman who knew where to find the good berries, one guy who was the best at fixing spears, and some people who weren't that good at anything so they just joined the effort wherever they were needed? You don't have to have a physical exchange of currency or a 40hr desk job for that to be true.
API pricing or subscriptions?
I'm in my 20s and plan to in my 30s
>"I'm smart therefore I need to be good at this. If I'm not good at this, then I'm dumb"
This reminds me of the meme "If I can't get this barbell off my chest, I'm gay and my whole family dies"
Which got me more gains than any other time in my life
Not usually for anything over a few stories. Most of those taller buildings are a combination of masonry and steel. Steel started being used in the 1880s/1890s.
there's nothing inherently unsustainable about suburbs, they just aren't currently paying enough in property taxes for infrastructure
there's hardly any volume there, so I wouldn't take it seriously. The last transaction was 4 days ago
footnote 10 says it includes 3rd party implementations of DeepSeek
How does Ethoxyquin get into chili powder?
my ipad does that, no interaction with anything on the lockscreen will reset the timeout timer
