Off topic but I find it funny when a site shows a popup to sign up for the newsletter as soon as you get on the site but then has no newsletter sign-up at the end of the article.
I've just signed up and it looks like gold is $50 a year. Maybe they've changed it since you last looked?
I honestly wonder if the tokens is just a play to make this a tech company.

It makes me think of how they had some sort of WeWork OS project at WeWork and being a tech company rather than a real estate company can help increase valuation.

I may be completely wrong on this ofcourse but just a theory.

"So what kind of music/TV/movies do you like?"

Also allows for three questions over one general question.

Just wanted to say genuinely well done, this is an inspirational post. What would you say kept you going back then? What was your motivation?
Re:Ask HN: Who Wants to Be Fired? (June 2022) on Thursday June 02, 2022 @05:34AM (#31593007)
Just a small tip for Mondays. I stopped going to the gym on Mondays and essentially got rid of any miserable activities for the evening, clearing it up. I still dread Mondays, just a little less because I know after work I can just relax and cook a nice meal.

I think it's short for something
How did you know?
Re:Ask HN: Replacement for Stack Overflow jobs section? on Saturday March 05, 2022 @05:29AM (#30566225)
For anybody curious like I was, you answer a series of questions and at the end have to sign up to see any job postings.

I didn't end up signing up but they could atleast provide a sample of the roles they have available instead of wasting the time of anybody that just wants a quick idea of what they have to offer.

Re:Living on 24 hours a day on Sunday January 16, 2022 @08:35AM (#29955862)
Possibly off topic but could this be procrastination more than an addiction to the Algo?

I've found my procrastination stems from a fear of failure. Maybe you doom scroll instead of do these other things because your afraid you'll 'fail' at them and feel bad rather than because they are effort and commitment.

Somebody has mentioned this about Patreon before. But couldn't a drug dealer now just sign up to Twitter and get Tips from their customers instead of cash?
Re:Please fix the AWS free tier before somebody gets hurt on Wednesday May 05, 2021 @05:12AM (#27047781)
I don't get why AWS doesn't offer preloading credit. Surely charging your card 1 cent a month isn't worth the time.

Whereas if they allowed customers to load on an amount, even a direct debit, their card processing fees would go down and customers would just get cut off when they run out of credit.

I suppose a counter argument to this is that it's hard for AWS to keep a constant eye on how much a service is costing. In which case we're back to the same argument as spending limits.

Not sure what browser you use, but since disabling JavaScript for Medium (Chrome) it's been better.

I agree with you still though.

Re:Limitations and pitfalls of the job interview on Tuesday July 07, 2020 @05:58AM (#23757431)
Hang in there. I have a friend who's in a similar position, she's interviewed and been ghosted a few times and it has really gotten her down. It can take time but eventually a company will come to their senses and realise your value.

This helpful link explains what and why

I think an incredibly simple coding test is enough.

At my previous role we were surprised just how many people looked good on paper for a development role but barely even attempted the first question on a 3 question HackerRank test.

That's great thanks, really informative. May I ask where your hosting this all?

Thank you for this, it's a nice concise way to explain that even the experienced use Google all of the time.

Alt + Backspace should work for the delete key.

I agree with you on the pricing and Crostini support though.

Ask HN: Mass department walkout

It's looking like our very small development department will soon be just 1 person from 5.Just wondering if anybody has any interesting stories of how a company carried on after the majority of their technical talent left.

Hi, sorry Im not sure on the API being used. But just to let you know you can access an API by creating your own endpoint to call, which then calls the target API. In which case your not exposing the target API's key as its backend code. Then you can ensure only your users are using their particular key and for example rate limit them yourself.

Hope this helps
