Re:Ask HN: Why is Azure so expensive? on Sunday January 17, 2016 @07:48PM (#10921885)
So expensive? Can you please provide some data / your usage to back you statement?
Nice but would be great if it was free for up to 5 or even 3 users. Startups and individuals like me would love that !

Re:Ask HN: Why most of the Microsoft Products are slow? on Monday January 11, 2016 @10:42PM (#10885437)
I don't pay for Gmail and its faster. I had free tier of AWS and it was faster. I have i7 PC with 16 GB RAM, 4 MB Cache. That is a general configuration most developers have I suppose.

To blame Microsoft as a company wouldn't be fair I suppose. I hold the Project Managers responsible.

I had a issue where the Azure would just tell me I had no subscription, even though I had one. It asked to selection option if my email was Microsoft account or a company account. My email was [email protected]. So obviously I selected Company account. Later found out I had to select Microsoft account. Not sure why anyone has to select what type of account. Why can't the system determine itself what account it is. It is this kind of stupid stuffs that makes Microsoft look bad.

Ask HN: Why most of the Microsoft Products are slow?

I use both gmail and hotmail. Gmail is way to fast in terms of login and logout. Whereas Hotmail is relatively slower.I used AWS before and never had to wait for dashboard to be shown after login.I'm currently using Azure for differnt project and most of the time I have to wait and stare at the processing image. Its just slow.Visual Studio, after such long time of development and so much...

Re:Ask HN: Moving to New Zealand. What Is Needed? on Thursday January 07, 2016 @07:35PM (#10862029)
Get IELTS Exam done - score more than 6.5 on scale of 9

Assess your qualification with NZ authority

Asses your Experience

Check the NZ immigration website to see how many points you have.

Lodge Expression of Interest, wait for response

Once they respond, submit application / pay fees and wait for result

Problem with Coursera / Udemy is they just scratch the surface. Almost all courses are introductory and don't go into depth.
I had the same thought but after closely working and observing what they do on day to day basis, here I have come up with few reasons:

1. They understand the day to day Operations of the company better.

2. Non-IT people find it easier to deal with them.

3. They're easy going, less demanding in terms of the Company culture and technologies used.

4. They tend to stay for long time in the company - that means Loyalty. Most companies appreciate and reward Loyalty.

5. They aren't Incompetent. They are just good at what they do, for long time, which new comers might dispute as being lazy, not passionate about technology.

Lastly, most of the jobs don't require you to be genius.

So you seriously are crazy about star wars?

I didn't grow up watching star wars but know about it from Big Bang Theory and all the hype in news / media. I wonder what percentage is hype and what percentage of people seriously are crazy about Star wars as they show in news?TO be frank, I think its a decent movie but not something to go crazy about. This is right place to ask I suppose as they portray as if all geeks, tech people love Star...

Re:Ask HN: Swift, Scala, Rust, oh My! Which One? on Wednesday December 16, 2015 @12:39AM (#10742594)
Its not about language as I've understood now going through the same phase you're going through right now.

What matters the most is getting things done, getting product to market.

Overthinking on language, platform is just a waste of time. Get things done, was good ? continue, not good? change but keep pushing the new features.

Would be nice if you could share your filter. I tried doing search with the texbox at the bottom of page but results didn't look pretty/
I very much agree with you. I wish I could do something else rather than sitting on my bum all day staring at these two screens. But I can't, got bills to pay.

Ask HN: Does Hacker News make you overwhelmed or frustrated or worried?

After being a HN regular for more than two years, I've now changed the way I think. That is the only way I can get over this and stop going crazy. When you scroll through all these pointers and read some of them, I used to feel like I'm the worst programmer in this world. I know nothing. While I'm fixing these bugs, changing label names and doing CRUD on web, others are making millions with...

Is Coursera only for introductory courses?

I don't want to spend fortune doing masters. However, I want to learn some new things. I try finding courses in Coursera but most of them are introductory courses and doesn't really go into depth. Even the specialization. Are there other alternatives?

Good thought but not everyone can apply. People have family to feed, debts to clear and have little or no choice !
Really good to know !
Thanks for a view from different angle !

Hello Programmers without Masters degree, what are your future plans?

If you're a programmer without masters degree in computer science, how are you going to be competitive and keep progressing in future. For example, I have an undergrad degree in computer science, been programming for 7 years. Not sure if I can keep writing code till 60 and still find jobs as well as make good income. I fear I'll be run over by the new generation.

Re:More Than Two Years at a Company Is Bad for Your Career on Tuesday October 20, 2015 @10:19PM (#10423251)
Hahahaha.....it felt good till I finished the article and just below it was the description of company writing this. So easy to fool people into read something.

Content Marketing...is what is called?

Anyways, it makes no sense to stay in a job where you can't learn and improve your value. It's not about sucess, its about your value.
