Re:In 2011 Google Spent $1.9 Billion Acquiring 79 Companies on Friday January 27, 2012 @11:27AM (#3518817)
The $1.9 Billion Google spent on acquistions excludes the Motorola deal. As the Motorola deal is expected to close sometime in 2012, so their $12.5 Billion acquistion would be included in the 2012 numbers - of course this is still up for regulatory approval.

It will continue in 2012 as in the filing Google said, “Acquisitions will also remain an important component of our strategy and use of capital, and we expect our current pace of acquisitions to continue."

Build an allfacebook.com/insidefacebook.com for pinterest ;)
They're protecting its competitors (Android ones that is) - http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-08-15/tech/30008645...
They'll probably win the patent battle in Europe on the 3rd Feb where one of the patents is being disputed, and since they've won previously against older Apple products its not 100% in favour of Apple.
Motorola actually also asserting one of these in European equivalent of this patent against Apple with a decision being made on Friday 3rd February, 2012.
Re:How many HNers have dabbled in arbitrage? on Saturday January 14, 2012 @03:07AM (#3463781)
I have actually done this a few times in several different markets. For instance, I used to buy domains in the GoDaddy Auctions for $x and resell them for $xxx+ instantly to other webmasters/domainers. I actually ended up giving the method out for free including the core details and the services used to find the domains which would give the biggest ROI. The method still works today.

Re:Poll: Will you move your domains from GoDaddy today? on Thursday December 29, 2011 @11:01AM (#3404016)
It would have to be to someone that you know and don't mind being exposed to said domain as in accordance with ICANN you can't use fake whois information.

You aren't allowed to use fake whois information in accordance with ICANN.

When you transfer your domain to another provider, the existing time is still on the domain and they are extended by another year.
Re:Bye Daddy: Search who hasn't fled GoDaddy yet on Monday December 26, 2011 @07:38AM (#3392803)
I tested this with a few domains which are registered at GoDaddy and it says they are not registered at Godaddy.

It looks like this is pulling the GoDaddy DNS (since none of my domains use the GoDaddy DNS) rather than if the domain is actually registered at GoDaddy or not.

Re:Ask HN: How to make TechCrunch talk about my startup? on Wednesday November 23, 2011 @07:37PM (#3272467)
Build a good app/site that people want. You won't get coverage if it isn't good or is essentially a clone.

If your app/site is good then here is a good article for you to start with: http://jasonlbaptiste.com/featured-articles/how-i-pitched-te...

Remember TechCrunch coverage does not mean that your startup will be successful and if they don't cover you it doesn't mean you won't be successful either. What is important is building a good app/site that people want.

With regards to offering them money etc... NO. Daniel Brusilovsky was fired from TechCrunch over a bribe attempt - http://venturebeat.com/2010/02/05/techcrunch-daniel-brusilov... - and this isn't a route you should be looking to go down. Although, if you are looking for paid reviews of your website/app which does not mean they will be nice about your app and they are also disclosed that they are a paid review - there are several websites that will connect you with bloggers that will do this for you.

Remember the important thing which is building a good app/site that people want and if you do that, not only will you get coverage but you will get users.
