Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2021) on Tuesday September 07, 2021 @01:20PM (#28447315)
Nice work with your jobs page.
Just like “Who is hiring” thread, a “Looking for co-founder” thread every quarter or 6 months might be helpful to the community? That can help start the conversation which is the first step towards finding the right co-founder. You can also get a good idea about a person by looking at their submission/comment history on HN.

I feel naive bayes works pretty well with such text classification tasks. You might want to give it a try.

Re:Why Crash Reporting Matters on Apps on Wednesday March 11, 2015 @09:43AM (#9183986)
Crashlytics is now bundled with Fabric suit from Twitter. Its working well for us. I missed the custom logging feature in the Analytics, but that would evolve with time I guess.
The truth is that the good developers aren't making 100x less in most of the developed countries. Most of the good developers I know in India are earning in 25-40K range with lots of tax benefits. Expenses are less than 10K even if you live a good lifestyle.
Re:AFNetworking alternative: STHTTPRequest on Wednesday May 14, 2014 @06:20AM (#7743003)
Anyone uses MKNetworkKit? I use MKNetworkKit in most of my small projects which has a much simpler API and works well.
My opinion. I am a DO user and I don't think you can use it for production application. Casual hosting is fine.

For production servers, deterministic backups are very important. DO does not provide that. I faced a lot of issues when transitioning my server from non-backup to backup mode. To do that, you need to take a snapshot(server shutdown is required for this)of server. Then, you need to destroy it to get the same ip. There is a chance that your ip may go to someone else & any services that are dependent on ip may need changes. I was lucky to loose the ip for a while & get it back after some trial & error.

Also, you don't have any control on the backup. It is taken by the system and is supposed to be anywhere between 2-3 days.

Ask HN: Hiring Dilemma

Is it good to hire a fresh undergraduate who doesn't have any professional experience, but finds you (your company) while looking for the work of his interest, or is it better to hire someone from job portal looking for a change with 1-2 years of experience?I know it also depends on lots of other factors (e.g. technical & communication skills), but do you think it is worth to hire someone...

Ask HN: Using QR code to track my Expenses?

I have seen many people interested in tracking their daily expenses and knowing how much they spend on their food, clothing, rent, alcohol, etc. Some use excel sheets and some use specialized software, but biggest hindrance is manually entering expenses and categorizing it which is time consuming and hence, less effective (even bank transactions don't give individual item information).I was...

Data Mining Interval prediction

Hi, Not sure if this the right place for my question, but if not, then pointers to right forum will be helpful.I have some real estate data and would like to predict property value given its attributes (area, bedrooms, etc) using locally weighted regression. I would also like to associate a confidence value with my prediction. Do I need to use Bayesian/probabilistic regression to achieve this?...

Re:Ask HN: Overcoming an Inferiority Complex on Sunday June 19, 2011 @05:08AM (#2670599)
Totally agreed. Any kind of daily physical activity (could be exercise, some sport, dance, anything) will definitely help.
Just had a quick look and it seems that to use HPCC you will have to learn some new syntax (not sure though). Hadoop is based on java and most developers know it well. This could be a problem with widespread adoption of HPCC.

Would like to know your view :)

Re:Web robot that learns on Saturday June 11, 2011 @03:35PM (#2644650)
It annoys me as well. Only interested people will bother to have a look at it and telling them nothing about you application won't get you their email id for sure. Either share more information or wait until your are ready to share it.
Re:Ask HN: Why RoR is popular among startups? on Sunday June 05, 2011 @06:06AM (#2621724)
I think most of the web startups prefer scripting languages in which their founders/developers are comfortable. It could be Php, Java, Ruby, Python or any other language. I would prefer Perl as I m good with it and can get things done quickly :)
Re:Why doesn't Hacker News have a search functionality? on Thursday June 02, 2011 @04:41AM (#2611189)
Thanks for the links. Now next time if I need to search HN, I will have to find your comment first (to get links) :) It would be great to have this link on HN homepage. Also, it will help in reducing the duplicate posts. People can do a quick search and check if their topic is already posted by someone else.
