Re:Raspberry Pi Zero: the $5 computer on Thursday November 26, 2015 @06:10PM (#10635147)
looks like a great idea but doesn't it significantly slow down your network? I think I would rather install an ad-blocker on a tomato/dd-wrt/open-wrt router...
Re:The Secret Ingredient in Orange Juice on Thursday November 26, 2015 @05:15PM (#10634984)
I usually mix my juices with about 40% water before I drink them.
the Chinese don't want to loose that business I guess

Wouldn't it make more sense to clone her whenever the cure becomes available? since she was so young...
Re:Comcast May Have Found a Net Neutrality Loophole on Sunday November 22, 2015 @10:13AM (#10610256)
Not sure if the FCC has a set definition for IPTV that would make Netflix not IPTV ... if they don't, it would just require Netflix to say "we are IPTV too".

Quick energy is one use of sugars.
Re:Comcast May Have Found a Net Neutrality Loophole on Sunday November 22, 2015 @06:55AM (#10609819)
Couldn't Netflix setup IPTV as an option to the user to take advantage of the same loophole? or maybe the FCC could classify all streamed videos as IPTV...
Re:Goodbye privacy: Amazon Echo, the home robot who hears it all on Saturday November 21, 2015 @11:39PM (#10609104)
This Amazon product is not new and many cellphones have basically the same functionality that brings the same privacy issues.
Re:Coffee drinking linked to lower mortality risk again on Saturday November 21, 2015 @11:37PM (#10609099)
Both fats and sugars are helpful too, if you don't abuse them (probably the same for coffee).
Unless you are hosting your own server and don't store your mail on a third party in the cloud (but that is probably true for all your data that is hosted by a third party, not just email)
IoT doesn't have to share any data with third parties... it could be shared with you on the local network or your own server... but many devices make it hard... so you have to be careful.
Re:Why has WhatsApp accessed my contacts 23,709 times? on Friday November 20, 2015 @02:45PM (#10603370)
I didn't know that they are now letting users root Nexus devices without having to use exploits and such, but I was refering to all devices that use the Android OS.
Re:Why has WhatsApp accessed my contacts 23,709 times? on Friday November 20, 2015 @01:10PM (#10602743)
Google should be required to give root to any user that request it for their own device... (anyone should be able to get better control of their own device). It would be easier to control crazy permissions.
The only times I tried to use Coinbase to buy Bitcoins, they stopped processing orders apparently because the Bitcoin value was fluctuating too much, so I never got my Bitcoins... and I never used them since then.
Most cops see no consequences for killing citizens and he gets fired for singing a song in uniform.

Color me surprised and happy... I hope this become a reality.
Re:Police Civil Asset Forfeitures Exceed All Burglaries in 2014 on Thursday November 19, 2015 @01:46PM (#10596654)
That is very true and you might think that my next point is off-topic but too much surveillance power (or lack of privacy) is also a treat to democracy.
Re:Police Civil Asset Forfeitures Exceed All Burglaries in 2014 on Thursday November 19, 2015 @07:04AM (#10594276)
Sorry if I didn't address civil forfeiture... of course that is wrong.

My comment was posted in relation to "... kill more people than any terrorist ..." which I don't think has anything to do with civil forfeiture.

Some cities have created public-owned ISPs like Chattanooga's fiber network (community fiber[1]).

You could also become your own ISP.

I stay with Comcast because it is way cheaper then AT&T but with AT&T's VDSL I could get 45mbps (fiber to the neighborhood box, apparently).
Re:Police Civil Asset Forfeitures Exceed All Burglaries in 2014 on Wednesday November 18, 2015 @09:25PM (#10592358)
Even if you added deaths by police and deaths by terrorists together, it would probably still not be in the top 50 leading causes of death (I'm still trying to find data with all causes of deaths in the US).
Re:A Back Door to Encryption Won't Stop Terrorists on Wednesday November 18, 2015 @07:15PM (#10591763)
perhaps it would be hard to sell it, unless it is being sold as the only way to truly put the brakes to the trend (if there is actually an upward trend).
Re:A Back Door to Encryption Won't Stop Terrorists on Wednesday November 18, 2015 @06:38PM (#10591558)
they would be better off trying to stop what causes these terrorists from wanting to attack us...
Re:Patronizing Passwords on Wednesday November 18, 2015 @04:44PM (#10590980)
I don't think that's possible... it reminds me of Apple saying that they can't decrypt your phone, but it is decrypted when you use it and many apps have permissions to transfer basically everything over the network (and Apple has root too).
I use a RaspberryPi that runs Raspbian and mount my file server's UPnP media directory using djmount. Then start videos on my TV using the OMX Remote app from Android devices (OMX Remote plays videos using the omxplayer app on the RPi). I had to increase the gpu memory on the RaspberryPI so that all my videos would play and once in a while kill omxplayer processes but other then that it works fine. And you go this route, you could still install Kodi if you need the plugins.
Re:Pediatricians say farm use of antibiotics harms children on Tuesday November 17, 2015 @08:09PM (#10585246)
They say that GMOs are safe, not because of the test that they have done, but because of how long they have been feeding it to us. And they create new varieties constantly.
