OIDCwarden still requires two passwords :(
Re:Ask HN: Advice on Migrating from 1Password? on Thursday September 03, 2026 @05:49AM (#49547945)
Whenever I see KeePass mentioned as an alternative I think we should add this disclaimer:

KeePass does not offer sync and conflict resolution. This must be handled by your filesystem/OS/other tools. While this is typically not a problem for single users or very small groups, this can be catastrophic in company/group settings. So please think hard about whether you want sync/conflict resolution (server/client based solutions like Bitwarden/Vaultwarden) to be part of your Password manager – or not.

Yeah, sharing is one of the big problems with Immich. You either need to expose your whole instance to make share links publicly accessible (and there's no way to secure user accounts with 2FA), or create user accounts for the people you want to share with and/or invite them and set up your VPN for them to access the shares.

There's https://github.com/alangrainger/immich-public-proxy, which is a weird workaround (it's a separate gallery frontend that syncs with your instance to only expose this specific service, so you can keep your Immich instane private).

I don't think the Fellowship qualifies as "working for STF". These people are being paid/supported for the work they do in their own projects. They're not being paid to work on/work for STF to help them steer/analyze/control the other projects that are being funded.

EDIT: OPs comment can be understood in multiple ways: Should STF hire Developers to work on their own projects, or should they hire Developers to understand/guide/manage the funded projects in a better way.

Re:I Regret Migrating to Codeberg on Thursday July 23, 2026 @11:36AM (#49023314)
Another very american understanding of censorship. In Germany (where Codeberg is registered), censorship means censorship by a government. A private entity (Verein) deciding what and how they want to run their business is typically not considered censorship (maybe the term "private censorship" could work), but just "freedom of doing business". So if you want to argue FOR freedom, you could also turn this argument around and support the fact that a private entity should be able to decide whatever the fuck they want to do with their own service offering.
Are you on Strix Halo? If so, which llama.cpp backend are you using? ROCm on Strix Halo still seems incompatible with MTP models.
Yes, can confirm. You can start a GmbH with exactly half of it (12.500€). And the money does NOT need to stay locked on the bank account. You can spend it for company purposes (but NOT for founder wages).
So for a UG it's a Kommanditeinlage. But it doesn't change the fact that you can spend this money for business purposes. You just can't wire it back to yourself or pay it to yourself as a wage. Feel free to buy office furniture or company devices with it.

It's a common misunderstanding that this money needs to be reserved somewhere for liability purposes. That's not correct. You can spend it, both in a GmbH as well as in a UG. Look it up youself (e.g. https://www.anwalt.de/rechtstipps/stammkapital-muss-ich-das-...)

Not sure what he means with "2000€ share capital", which allegedly is locked.

Typically, you can spend your "Stammkapital" for business purposes (e.g. in a GmbH). It doesn't need to stay in your bank account.

Re:The Forge We Deserve on Thursday June 18, 2026 @10:26AM (#48585908)
Forgejo already supports ActivityPub, albeit only for a minor use case (starring repos), so according to your definition, it's decided already.
Re:The Forge We Deserve on Thursday June 18, 2026 @05:27AM (#48582927)
It seems ironic, that in the social media space, AT protocol based instances are basically centralised (Bluesky) and ActivityPub based instances (Fediverse, Mastodon) have a much healthier grade of federation.

Whereas in the "forges" space, it seems Tangled drives federation forward much faster than the ActivityPub-based federation features of Forgejo/Gitea (which are progressing really slow).

Seems to be mostly vibe coded.
Re:Sauna effect on heart rate on Monday April 20, 2026 @09:59AM (#47834482)
Oh I can assure you, millions people in the northern europe do exactly this ;)

EDIT: I guess it depends on your definition of "humid". But 90C and regular water infusions are pretty common sauna conditions.

There’s hundreds or thousands of people out there hosting Synapse for small groups and use cases. Ressource requirements for a couple of dozen or hundreds of people are pretty tame (mostly storage that grows fast). You can easily host Synapse on cheap VPS products for less than 5€/month. I’ve been doing this for multiple organizations and many years.
Re:Deutsche Telekom is violating Net Neutrality on Sunday January 25, 2026 @05:36AM (#46752786)
Not an alternative anymore. Vodafone started doing the same shit with their peering at the end of last year.
This looks very similar to https://docsify-this.net/
Doesn’t seem to work in regards to Deutsche Telekom so far.
Re:Why Nextcloud feels slow to use on Tuesday November 04, 2025 @04:52AM (#45809155)
There are no "Apps". It's not a universal App platform like Nextcloud. It's just file sharing (and optionally a Radicale calender server via Environment Variable but without UI). There's optional plugins to open vendor specific files right in the browser.
Re:Why Nextcloud feels slow to use on Monday November 03, 2025 @04:52PM (#45804890)
Take a look at OpenCloud. It's a Go-based rewrite of the former OwnCloud team.

It works very well, has polished UI and uses very little resources. It also does a lot less than Nextcloud.

Re:Why Nextcloud feels slow to use on Monday November 03, 2025 @04:50PM (#45804876)
Most of the OCIS team left to start OpenCloud, which is a OCIS fork. And it's hardware requirements are pretty tame. It's a very nice replacement for Nextcloud, if you don't need the Groupware features/Apps and are only looking for File sharing.
Re:Why Nextcloud feels slow to use on Monday November 03, 2025 @04:45PM (#45804827)
OCIS seems to have lost most of their team. They now work on a fork called OpenCloud. https://github.com/opencloud-eu
Re:Why Nextcloud feels slow to use on Monday November 03, 2025 @04:45PM (#45804819)
Actually, it's already been done by the former Nextcloud fork/predecessor. OwnCloud shared a big percentage of the Nextcloud codebase, but they decided to rewrite everything under the name OCIS (OwnCloud Infinite Scale) a couple of years ago. Recently, OwnCloud got acquired by Kiteworks and it seemed like they got in a fight with most of the staff. So big parts of the team left to start "OpenCloud", which is a fork of OCIS and is now a great competitor to Nextcloud. It's much more stable and uses less resources, but it also does a lot less than Nextcloud (namely only File sharing so far. No Apps, no Groupware.)

Re:Forgejo v13.0 Is Available on Saturday October 18, 2025 @06:07AM (#45626180)
I found it confusing, too. In the detailed changelog it seems that some PRs for following remote users have been merged, but I assume it's not complete/usable, yet. So from what I understand, no new "usable" federation features made it to the v13 release. Please correct me, if I'm wrong.
Swiss/Danish/Finnish Mobile Payment alternatives like TWINT and MobilePay.

Also: physical lockers with PIN/Code instead of keys (in basically every country aside from Germany). It's just completely bonkers to me, that German train station lockers still use physical Keys EVERYWHERE.

Re:My experiment living in a tent in Hong Kong's jungle on Sunday June 08, 2025 @03:33AM (#44215328)
I’ve been at HKUST in 2016, too. I must’ve been pretty close to that tent a couple of times. Very interesting read. I couldn’t have done it due to the crazy big spiders
Yes, n8n is not open source. It’s “source available”.
If you’re looking for an Open Source alternative, give Windmill a try.
I’ve been reading about RCS for maybe 10 years now, yet it’s not really available/usable for everyone? It feels like Vaporware at this point.
Re:I failed moving my Google calendar to Proton on Wednesday January 15, 2025 @02:38AM (#42708363)
Switching from Google to Proton sounds like picking the lesser of two evils.

If you really want to “degoogle” you should probably go for self-hosting or getting a managed OSS product (e.g. managed Mailcow/Sogo Hosting). Otherwise you’re just switching from one crazy billionaire to another.
