Not quite sure how Teslas work after they are unlocked, but presumably someone else could drive off with them? So maybe he just unlocked his car, got in the wrong unlocked car, and the other guy later got in his?
Pocket (getpocket.com) has a pretty wide selection of long form writing. The recommended articles are curated by humans. Their app is especially nice if you get on a plane and need something to read offline.
Re:Stop Spotify Surveillance on Thursday April 08, 2021 @09:50AM (#26738637)
Unlikely this patent will ever get used for something, but I think it could actually be used for good: if there's some music that makes me happy and some music that makes me sad without realizing it, it would be nice for "Spotify" to detect this and let me know/change the style of the music.
Re:My survey article on P vs. NP (2017) on Tuesday March 23, 2021 @10:36AM (#26555546)
The proof is likely to turn up some interesting factors. The reason why something is P and something else is NP is the big question.

OMG, the wave animation on the page is killing my CPU :) I'm pretty sure there has to be a better way.
Hey, I just stole your car. Cars don't have rights. So I haven't committed any crime.
We don't exactly know where the catastrophic threshold for climate change is. So it's entirely possible that this little move might make the difference between 2C warming, 4C warming.
Re:Mozilla’s DNS over HTTPs on Tuesday February 25, 2020 @12:55PM (#22415380)
If you use the nextdns DoH provider in Firefox you can actually configure your own adblocking domains even when you're moving around across networks. Just FYI
I don't think anyone is building suction robot proof buildings yet. It can barely climb the buildings we have now.
Re:My Business Card Runs Linux on Tuesday December 24, 2019 @01:17PM (#21873850)
Was it just the windows kernel? Or did it include all of the utilities in Windows?
Re:Ask HN: What do you do with your Raspberry Pi? on Monday June 24, 2019 @05:28PM (#20268700)
PiHole... Also I have Transmission handling torrent files for downloading entirely legal movies, and keeps seeding them. I use MiniDLNA to stream them to my TV.
Re:DNS-over-HTTPS Policy Requirements for Resolvers on Wednesday April 10, 2019 @12:24PM (#19626229)
Having a pihole still doesn't prevent applications from using another resolver - for example dig example.com @8.8.8.8 You'd also need to block all other DNS traffic. And even after that, it's tricky, as applications that are not a browser might be doing this with a hardcoded DoH provider.
Re:Stoicism's Appeal to the Rich and Powerful on Thursday March 28, 2019 @07:17AM (#19511053)
I always had the impression that stoic virtues mandate that someone who has power to bring change and improve the lives of others also has a duty of doing so. I guess the problem with any philosophy is that humans tend to pick and choose the parts that are convenient. In any case, I still think stoicism teaches invaluable skills in today's society.
Client side encryption with a passphrase derived key and synchronization to Google Drive? That would work great for me.

Mozilla Hello ? This is a very very old website if it still mentions that product. I think it was shutdown years ago.
Re:The fundamentalist FOSS mentality on Tuesday November 20, 2018 @09:02AM (#18493803)
I disagree with part of your argument. If being FOSS is important to you, by all means, only use FOSS. In some situations it is critical. For example, all of my devices become worthless once they stop being supported, unless they're FOSS.

At the same time there are some FOSS fundamentalists that think using proprietary software make you a bad person. They are wrong.

I usually read long articles I have saved in Pocket.
Re:Show HN: Control IKEA Lights Using Google Home and IFTTT on Saturday March 10, 2018 @07:46PM (#16561012)
I agree. I also really appreciate the build quality in the remote.

I am a bit disappointed by their slowness in supporting Google Home by default - hence my project. It would be a lot better if they actually open-sourced the code for the gateway.

Re:Show HN: Control IKEA Lights Using Google Home and IFTTT on Saturday March 10, 2018 @07:03PM (#16560833)
That's cool. I mostly wanted a quick REST API to use with IFTTT, without a ton of dependencies. Home Assistant looks interesting. Maybe I'll give it a try sometimes.
It works for me. If it happens every time, I suggest filing a bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?format=guided
