Just dropping my 2ç here. A lot of the debate i read on this article verges on the subject of piracy as in copyrights infringement. Let's not forget that these sites also carry an enormous amount of old, uncopyrighted, obscure, impossible to find texts that would otherwise be lost forever and that is a service that they pay for and ultimately benefits all of humanity.

Re:Italian Data Protection Authority Clamps Down ChatGPT on Friday March 31, 2023 @08:13AM (#35385883)
Writing from rome, italy.

These bureaucrats only pretend to work. The number of privacy violations in italy is staggering, i have to take 10 calls a day from power companies because they have access to all the phone number of anybody who has a gas or energy contract.

I had to change phone numbers. Meanwhile they are going against a service that as far as i know does not even require your name to serve you.

Re:Show HN: I made a self-hosted ChatGPT UI on Tuesday March 14, 2023 @09:52AM (#35151517)
What I think i need is something like this, but in bookmarklet form. I click it, it prompt()s me for the prompt and displays the output in a textarea so i can quickly paste it. Thinking of it it should be possible to put the output straight into the clipboard, right? The use case of course would be email/forum communication. The problem is that you have to make a UI to embed the API key into the code, because pasting it into an urlencoded script is bound to be a pain.
Well, the fail whale was a meme way before the musk era..
Most people who use terminals do it to trade fixed income products for one.

Ask HN: How to get a droid phone to ignore wakelock in low battery situations

Lately I've been using tiktok to fall asleep (it works pretty well, i think it's because of the looping audio that happens when you get too tired to scroll)However this is the fastest way to wake up to a phone with 0% battery. Scrolling while recharging would solve this but is impratical, and so is using another phone for tiktok only. So, what is the best way to get an android phone to just quit...

Re:Ask HN: Are you tired of reading ChatGPT headlines? on Sunday February 05, 2023 @04:04AM (#34663205)
Well, a few years ago it was 80% blockchain headlines, at least GPT has practical uses. If it bothers you, set yourself up with a custom rss reader that has kill words -- that's what i did when i was tired of cryptoheadlines.
Re:Ask HN: Is Social Audio Dead? on Friday January 27, 2023 @05:36PM (#34552817)
Sorry for being pedantic but social audio is basically the telephone system and is more or less fully monetized.
Re:Ask HN: SaaS Dashboard Tech Stack? on Friday January 27, 2023 @03:13PM (#34551192)
a dashboard is a front-end project that should work with any backend. There are plenty of ready made solutions, just google $yourfrontendframework + dashboard and you will see.

Re:Italy, Intel close to $5B deal for chip factory on Friday August 05, 2022 @07:02PM (#32362931)
Well, if you call what is going on in italy "turmoil" I must remind you that no one has assaulted major political sites in their capitol in a decade, at least in a major way. Anyway who ever said that turmoil is mutually exclusive with engineering prowess?

To be entirely honest what italy has in terms of political situation is an excess of stability, but i digress.

Anyway the real issue in my view is that the EU chips act's investment size is anemic compared to the recent equivalent US initiative. But still it's a step in the right direction and the amount allocated to italy is so comparatively small as to be negligible.
