Re:Patrick Winston: How to Speak (2018) [video] on Monday September 01, 2025 @07:17PM (#45097466)
But I don't wanna be the show. :(
Re:The First Website on Saturday April 27, 2024 @07:59AM (#40179288)
Because expectations have increased since the early 90's and servers cost money.
Re:Google Drive misplaces months' worth of customer data on Monday November 27, 2023 @09:17AM (#38432474)
I remember OneDrive doing this too, where photos of parents' children taking a bath etc. were flagged as child porn. Unfortunately unless you encrypt your data locally, privacy is one of the tradeoffs in using these services.
Re:Google Domains Is Gone on Sunday September 10, 2023 @10:52AM (#37456348)
Because Google's shareholders demand it.
Re:InternLM – new open source 7B LLM on Thursday July 06, 2023 @09:40AM (#36615596)
I don't know anything about what you're talking about. Where do I start to learn some of the AI terminology, models, benefits and drawbacks of each, etc?
It doesn't, because 6 justices agreed with the majority opinion rather than her interpretation.
`I pity the foo that doesn't take a right at the second exit in the upcoming round-about`

It feels like a lot of the 'fun' in apps has been removed over the years.

Re:TikTok Ban Bill Is Patriot Act 2.0 Trojan Horse on Thursday March 30, 2023 @02:04PM (#35376734)
The US has privacy enshrined in the highest law of the land, the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution. The problem is that the courts have eroded the meaning and allowed loopholes in the name of "national security", which itself is a term that has been perverted.
Re:Docker is sunsetting Free Team organizations [pdf] on Tuesday March 14, 2023 @01:59PM (#35155651)
Maybe I'm cynical, but in leaving so many critical information points out, Docker appears to be fear mongering organizations into paying for a subscription. If they provided answers to all these points, then orgs would be able to make a logical decision. By leaving these questions unanswered, orgs are incentivized to move to paid just to avoid any unknown consequences.
Re:ElonJet Is Now Suspended on Wednesday December 14, 2022 @10:39AM (#33984978)
He's also restored countless accounts that were banned under previous ownership. While banning ElonJet flys in the face of being a "free speech absolutist", he's certainly demonstrated that he's generally in favor of freer speech.
He was second only to George Soros for donations made to Democrats this election cycle. Would you like to revise your statement?
Re:GitHub stars won't pay your rent on Wednesday November 09, 2022 @10:59PM (#33542023)
Careful, if too many people start thinking like this reddit's entire business model built on free labor collapses.
So practically speaking, what will happen if Twitter ignores Iranian law and allows IPs from that country to use their platform anyway? I don't think the US govt will enforce Iranian law for them...
Curious as to what has kept you motivated to continue working on the project this long? So many open source developers don't last nearly as long or jump to something new once the novelty of the project wears off.
Politicians with donors and special interests to please keep pushing our foreign interventionism. The actual people here in the US don't really want to fight in any wars or instigate conflicts. But a representative democracy is not what we really have here any more.
Who are you using now?
That's amazing. When so many companies go in the opposite direction, it's incredibly refreshing to see a company make strides toward reducing their customer's identifiable data footprint.
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to 1Password on Sunday March 13, 2022 @01:30PM (#30663592)
I tried this move but I really missed the way LastPass asks you to save a new password created on a new service. On Bitwarden I felt like I had to save the account first before progressing to actually creating the account. LastPass "just knew" and would prompt me after going to the next screen. Has this changed it all since I last tried it a year or so ago?
Re:Bitwarden: Free, open-source password manager on Wednesday January 19, 2022 @08:36AM (#29993439)
Glad it wasn't just me. I was trying to get a repeatable issue with a particular site resolved, and support was beyond useless, i.e. unresponsive for up to two weeks, repeating the same scripted BS they had sent me previously, etc. Despite my pleading I was never able to get to a level 2 where someone could actually look at my problem.
Re:Abstract Clojure on Thursday November 25, 2021 @11:32AM (#29342656)
What is Clojure's main selling point?
Re:The Era of Cheap Natural Gas Ends as Prices Surge by 1000% on Saturday August 07, 2021 @12:41PM (#28099905)
Nuclear. We need to renew our investment into nuclear. Carbon-free and reliable in all the ways that renewables are not.
Re:Latest Mozilla VPN features on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @11:10PM (#26656228)
Interesting! Gave me something to look into, thanks.
Re:Latest Mozilla VPN features on Wednesday March 31, 2021 @01:28PM (#26650217)
I would love to use Mullvad, but I need split tunneling on a per-process basis (Windows), since there is the occasional website that hates VPN-based servers. I have a special browser installation I use for such occasions, but few VPN providers offer per-process VPN exceptions. Any chance Mullvad is considering this feature?
Re:Capitol Attack Was Months in the Making on Facebook on Tuesday January 19, 2021 @02:17PM (#25837518)
I'd argue that this has been creeping for a while. At first it's used to ban blatantly illegal posts and obvious spam. However the power to moderate is easily abused. Big Tech is now effectively punishing wrong-think, and it doesn't even have to happen on the platform in question.
Re:GCP Outpaces Azure, AWS in the 2021 Cloud Report on Sunday January 17, 2021 @11:55AM (#25812263)
Are there any good alternatives to the big three? I'm looking to build out a platform with as little dependence on Google/MSFT/Amazon as possible.
Re:My personal wishlist for a decentralized social network on Monday January 11, 2021 @01:21PM (#25733296)
Is there a place where people interested in this kind of tech gather and discuss possibilities/code? I'd love to participate in something like this.
Re:NASA's Curiosity rover: 3k days on Mars on Saturday January 09, 2021 @12:37PM (#25702393)
That's incredible, thanks for sharing.
> The aging activation servers for those apps had to be retired.

Oh come on. Surely a company with the resources of Adobe can figure out a way to keep an activation server running. In fact I'll bet you could find one competent sysadmin to keep it running indefinitely. I hate when companies spew out obvious utter B.S. like this.
