Re:Poll: Do you have a 3d printer? on Wednesday May 01, 2013 @10:53PM (#5642222)
I've been holding off because the desktop size limits functionality, but manufacturers seem to be moving beyond toys. I think we're right on the cusp of seeing some industrial strength printers geared towards hackers/makers/hobbiests. This one on KickStarter seems to be pushing the conventional size boundaries, http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/re3d/gigabot-3d-printing....
This is brilliant, but now it's only a matter of time until it's in actual use. Sort of like how evercookie was a clever hack meant to call attention to privacy concerns, then was put into actual production sites.

The press release, http://open.bloomberg.com/pdf/bloomberg-open-pr.pdf, clarifies this. There's a footnote at the end.

"Bloomberg is offering its programming interface (BLPAPI) under a free-use agreement. This does not apply to any content."

Re:8 Enormous Things That Are Smaller Than Apple, Inc. on Thursday November 24, 2011 @08:44AM (#3274285)
Lots of these are misleading. It doesn't do any good to compare annual sales to market cap.
Wow, this is literally the exact application of the Stanford Machine Learning class up to this point.

RIM Ports Native Libraries to PlayBook NDK, Including Boost, Box2D and Erlang

https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/native/documentation/oss.html

With QNX being POSIX compatible, it makes sense that a number of C++ libraries would be easily ported to the PlayBook. But the breadth of libraries and runtimes showing up is pretty surprising. Lua and Erlang (presumably to make CouchDB possible) are interesting additions.
