Developer Andre0512 has received a takedown request from Haier to take down an open source Home Assistant integration with many of their smart appliances, sold under the names such as Haier, Candy and Hoover. The HA community as a response has already created many forks at the moment of writing (https://github.com/Andre0512/hon/forks)

Announcement: I have to take the project down in the next few days

I don't really recognise the first concern you raise, but that might also be due to the fact that viewing all European countries as the same in this regard might be overgeneralising.

I don't know whether this is the best set of extensions, but I'm personally using a mix of

- uBlock Origin

- Facebook Container

- Decentraleyes, ClearURLs

- HTTPS Everywhere

- Privacy Badger.

- Redirect AMP to HTML

- Terms of Service; Didn’t Read

- Smart Referer

- User-Agent Switcher

Next to that I'm using Bitwarden and Floccus (Nextcloud Bookmarks) for self-hosted decentralised password and bookmarks sync.

An interesting alternative to Disqus might be Commento. https://gitlab.com/commento/commento

It's a SaaS or self-hosted commenting application written in Go. I also set this up myself last week https://pieterhollander.nl/post/commento .
