Re:Optimizing for Human Wisdom on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @06:07AM (#50163758)
I do most of my work these days just in my notes - writing self reflecting questions, planning, using the a lot question "if this will go wrong - what will be the reason?" (inverting the problem) Once the notes are written, I manually extract a general product spec from it again in notes. Then I take the product spec to the LLM and it just implementes, quite quickly all the things that it might have taken me a week+ to think about. Something that helps with planning is having the llm build mockup pages - just so that it will be easier for me to imagine and think how the solution might look like and what imporatnt, underlying factors or details i might have missed

Totally spot on. It sometimes feels normal that we can talk to a computer and it responds intelligently, but just 3 years ago that was fantasy.

Num. 2 especially relatable. A good mark of high quality professional is if he presents his plan before execution to hear feedback and comments - even if they are totally against his original idea, and he can then take this feedback and incorporate effectively in a re-design.
Re:I Stopped "Creating Content" on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @07:03PM (#48999532)
You're right. But, nowadays these terms get more context meaning. For example - a user is someone who platforms sell their data to customers. Or a user is someone gullible you trick into making decisions that are good for the business. The literal term of someone who is using your system/product has evolved.
Re:I Stopped "Creating Content" on Monday July 20, 2026 @12:08PM (#48980803)
For me the term users sometimes sounds similar to traffic. I prefer customers - that you serve with your product.

Interesting, thanks
Interesting, thanks for the reference. I wonder what other products do this

1000 true fans and Seth Godin's approach to marketing - that you should focus on the smallest group of people in your market and amaze them

These concepts helped me a lot with marketing to consumers and SMBs

Also, follow @mtlynch's content - even though he says he's not an expert, I feel that atleast regarding marketing to devs and builders - he is one of the best out there

Thanks for your work Michael!
Re:Deep Dive into FFmpeg 8.0 on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @02:38PM (#45984056)
Correct. I fixed the typo
Re:Deep Dive into FFmpeg 8.0 on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @01:24PM (#45983009)
You mean Vulkan? In the blog post there is reference to all vulkan supported platforms

If you mean ffmpeg build with whisper - from memory I didn't see ffmpeg-builds for mac, so you will probably need to compile yourself

Re:Deep Dive into FFmpeg 8.0 on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @11:04AM (#45981222)
I tend to agree. The thing I like most about version 8 is actually pad_cuda - nice performance boost for resizing video with an Nvidia GPU
Re:Deep Dive into FFmpeg 8.0 on Wednesday November 19, 2025 @10:33AM (#45980848)
This is a 3 part series, the first one discusses the new native whisper integration. And correct, for the first post - the point is to show that you can only use ffmpeg to transcribe and embed subtitles in a video

People in the community can be hardcore there sometimes, r/ffmpeg especially. But, there are communities online and information resources that help.

This is a nice resource: https://amiaopensource.github.io/ffmprovisr/

And also I've written this cheatsheet, which is designed to be used alongside an LLM: https://github.com/rendi-api/ffmpeg-cheatsheet

Let me know if you're interested in more resources

Re:The Value of Hitting the HN Front Page on Thursday August 21, 2025 @12:41AM (#44969086)
Thanks Dan, as usual, deep and insightful

Ask HN: In self-serve SaaS – how do you get paying users on exploration calls?

Usually users don't like to communicate, especially in self-serve, or PLG led products. But, we want to get them on calls to learn from them. One way that helps us is offering a video consultation session to help people integrate - but not many take up on the offer. What did you see that works for you?

Your question is very interesting.

Going over the comments the only plausible explanation I could see is KV cache being extremely useful - don't know if this is really just the case.

Would love to know the true answer to the question.

Re:FFmpeg cheat sheet for video automation on Monday August 04, 2025 @08:49AM (#44785097)
Author here. Happy to take any questions or feedback.

Ask HN: Newsletters for programmers about developing automations?

There is a lot of content for no-code automations, vibe coding and generally everything to do with not real programming work. There are also nice newsletters about AI research and academia.I was wondering if there are newsletters for coding focused people about new things with automations, AI etc.For now I only found HN daily as the best source, albeit not focused on this exact topic.
