I mean, the more friction and barriers they add, the more people will start to leave to other models. There is no moat. Risky move for them.
Normal Latin Americans want to be called Latin Americans when speaking English. LatAm (people, team, etc.) or similar also works because they prefer shortening by syllables instead of doing acronyms like LA because they're much clearer when read and easier to pronounce.
Re:Anti-Patterns in Software Blogging on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @12:44PM (#49995310)
I always insist that education is not storytelling and should not be structured as such. People want to save "twists" and "revelations" for maximum impact and it's harmful. It should actually be the other way around and be, keeping the theme, "spoilery" and repetitive. Like a good presentation you should start by saying what you'll say, say it, then conclude by saying what you said.

LLMs have made this problem extremely worse. Imagine how'd you'd explain what an MCP is in a couple words and technically, then try to look it up. There's phone books worth of pages and text that never end up getting to the point.

You could tell they were adrift and visionless when they started revamping the UI to look as much as VSCode as possible. Thankfully they kept the old version so far as a plugin at least, but I'm ready to jump ship if they drop it. Now they're trying to half heartedly copy as many AI products as possible instead of going all in on their core competencies. I used to be such a fan of JetBrains...
Re:Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free on Saturday September 26, 2026 @02:11PM (#49859049)
This is a pretty common sentiment. I make iOS exclusive apps because I know when facing any problem Google support will be non-existent. Apple takes ages to respond but has been known to be humanly possible so far.
Re:Toyota is finally taking its best-seller electric on Thursday September 24, 2026 @07:13PM (#49838055)
There is also a chance I won't buy a car without knobs. Car software has been historically so bad. My latest doesn't have a volume knob so my front passengers can't turn the volume at all (the UX is sliding the screen from the side to get navigation bars to appear which contain a volume button that you have to drag laterally - no increase/decrease software buttons). Otherwise it's a great car and that is literally the one drawback.

I must be the minority surely, but given the choice between knobs and screen, knobs are the deciding factor. Even if it's more expensive, it's UX that you use permanently while operating heavy machinery!

Re:iPhone Duo on Thursday September 10, 2026 @01:13AM (#49638699)
I honestly don't believe the foldable tech is there. Most I've seen from Samsung, Motorola, etc. are so, so very fragile they don't last the year. I've been burnt and everyone I know has too, I wouldn't have a foldable ever again. I hope Apple figures out some magic hardware but I'm doubtful.
Re:Portal by Spotify cut my Claude Code token usage by 90% on Saturday September 05, 2026 @05:41AM (#49574857)
Thank you, the article was so verbose I couldn't get the point just by skimming it. And it was this simple...
Re:Htmx 4.0.0 has been released on Saturday August 29, 2026 @05:12AM (#49488257)
It took me a long time to grok what htmx even was from barely glancing at news articles about it every once in a while. If I'd seen such a concise text explanation I'm sure I'd have got it immediately! Lesson learned: go to LLM docs first I guess?
Re:Meta's blockbuster trial draws parallels to big tobacco on Wednesday August 19, 2026 @12:03AM (#49356616)
I'm not sure about that example. I'm seeing non tech people getting very addicted to their customized chat bots. Companies are very primed to eventually nudge them to enshittify the content of the responses and it could get bad.
Re:Discovering Cryptographic Weaknesses with Claude on Wednesday July 29, 2026 @04:06AM (#49094653)
That's reassuring, it's exactly how I've always done LLM. It's fine, as long as the gist of what you mean is there you can be real lazy when typing. And I've always been on the cheapest of plans.
Re:So Reddit has decided that plain HTML is unsafe on Thursday July 23, 2026 @03:49AM (#49018181)
The login page is a very nice reminder to not use Reddit. I have the old reddit redirect extension so this change was the push I needed after the latest very clearly botted hate campaign took over the site recently. Dead internet theory is taking it over, so I'm off to the next moderated social website.
Has a anyone run this on Fedora or similar yet? From the readme it sounds like it could work but I've been surprised before and I can't find a discussion about it.
Re:How I use HTMX with Go on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @09:25PM (#48915116)
I've always wondered, is there a way to visually preview the partials and whole pages? I'm used to modern niceties such as hot reload with Tailwind that I'd like to have with HTMX, which I'm looking for excuses to try.
Makes one ponder how there really is no moat. If this rolls out as implied, it is immediately easy to switch providers, and I will.
Re:GrapheneOS has been ported to Android 17 on Tuesday June 16, 2026 @07:07PM (#48563523)
That Motorola phone that lets you install Graphene can not come soon enough. Pixel phones are not sold worldwide so it feels like they're gatekeeping security. I know that's not the case really, but there's very few ways to successfully degoogle otherwise.
Re:WWDC 2026: Apple is Folding on Tuesday June 09, 2026 @11:36AM (#48462509)
Seeing this literally after my foldable full on broke through the axle after not even half a year makes me concerned for Apple
I spell it KDE but it might be regional variance (:
> The bill applies to digitally sold games. However, it excludes games provided via subscription services, free-to-play games, and games that are inherently playable offline indefinitely. It also prohibits the continued sale or distribution of games that have become unusable due to service termination.

I believe this is the key paragraph. I wonder if this will be an incentive towards making more games qualify for those exceptions. I think the previous cases where this act would apply are few but good thing they wouldn't increase under this act.

Another LLM tell is that they penalize repetition so they'll use as many synonyms as possible. You may end up recognizing the same concept being rehashed with synonyms constantly. You can look up examples of thie as "elegant variation"
Re:Copy Fail – CVE-2026-31431 on Wednesday April 29, 2026 @03:06PM (#47952880)
The page itself seems vibecoded and a bit of an advertisement, but it does look like the vulnerability is real and high risk. It does explain the big security update I just got, guess I'll prioritize updating today.
Re:Phone is about to stop being yours on Tuesday April 28, 2026 @12:26PM (#47936656)
Not much, as it only works on very few high end phones not sold in most countries. Hopefully their Motorola partnership will expand its availability but I'm not confident that'll happen anytime soon.
Re:Claude Opus 4.7 on Saturday April 18, 2026 @03:39AM (#47813972)
This has been the worst upgrade so far. Claude Code had been doing great for months, then the past week took a nosedive. And today I find that _continuing_ a session from yesterday that had nothing to do with cybersecurity (literally pasted a stacktrace from a rare crash and told it to help me find a reproduction case to be able to fix it, as we very regularly did) suddenly ran afoul of usage policies and stopped the chat entirely. It's kind of a joke phrase by now, but in this case it's 100% serious, such behavior has made Claude Code literally unusable.

As a bonus, it somehow ate my entire daily allotment in a single prompt, something which had never happened before. I'll try again on Monday and if there's no change cancel my subscription outright and demand a refund.

That was my immediate impression too! It feels like it's all AI maximalists who seem to have a need to filter their every interaction through an LLM. And the result looks and reads just like Moltbook.
> “It is particularly painful that I made precisely the mistake I have repeatedly warned colleagues about: these language models are so good that they produce irresistible quotes you are tempted to use as an author. Of course, I should have verified them. The necessary ‘human oversight’, which I consistently advocate, fell short.”

What? Irresistible quotes? This betrays a terrible way of thinking as a journalist. Basically an admission of wanting to fake news that'd sound good. At that point just write fiction.

Re:OpenAI Has New Focus (On the IPO) on Thursday March 19, 2026 @02:24AM (#47435644)
If I end up using ChatGPT for any reason, I always preface with something like "2 sentences maximum. No emojis. Be professional." at the very least. It tends to improve things a bit.
I took something away from this article. While I enjoyed Blue Prince very much even though I played it alone, the surprisingly most enjoyable aspect of the game came externally - it was (and is) following my friends' journey through the game and being there to give them custom made consensual spoiler-free, hints when they needed. Some times simply being told you're barking up a very wrong tree or that you don't have enough information yet is exactly what you need to not get burnt out. I keep wondering if there's a way to have that baked into the game. Something to brainstorm.
Re:I was banned from Claude for scaffolding a Claude.md file? on Thursday January 22, 2026 @04:40PM (#46725485)
Wait what? Really? All caps is a bannable offense? That should be in all caps, pardon me, in the terms of use if that's the case. Even more so since there's no support at the highest price point.

There's links on the homepage to the soundtrack and credits, the artist is called Synthenia.
