Re:I built an app to fix my depression on Friday September 11, 2020 @05:18AM (#24440650)
Your depression couldn't have been that bad if you could create an app against it. Regular therapy would probably have been more effective and less dangerous for others.
Nuclear power is pretty cool if you don't build the plants in risky areas or ignore safety measures.

I'm a radiation safety officer and the completeness of precautions taken is inversely proportional to the amount of greediness of the company's CEO.

Until that's solved, nuclear power is a double-edged sword, as seen in Chernobyl and Fukushima. There's currently no perfect solution to that energy problem.

What many people don't know: There's more radiation set free by coal power plants than nuclear power plants because they burn that stuff and blow it into the air.

In addition to notifications from (social media) apps, turn off notifications for every messenger. I turned off everything but SMS and phone. If it's super important people will contact me there, all other messages can be read later.

Reminds me of systemd.

Cool, does it include a small dial to put the clocks back when they manage to let their TLS certificates run out the 4th time?
Reminds me of the AAA gaming industry. Jim Sterling made some great and insightful videos about it.
If you ever talked to one of the self proclaimed 'AI experts,' you know why.

Can't you block bitcoin miners via limiting CPU time per user?

As soon as a user hits x amount of minutes CPU per minute, you kill all his programs.

Not nice but effective.

Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @02:18PM (#24308259)
Tilde.fun has a somewhat working ssh signup with an admin interface: https://code.tilde.fun/tilde/ssh-reg

Maybe we can work together and create a lightweight admin framework.

Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @09:00AM (#24304318)
Then they should create one key per service and only use that one.
Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @08:54AM (#24304254)
I don't but currently the ssh registration script is nonfunctional.

Once that's working again you'd just have to give a fake mail address, but you won't be notified if we created an account for you this way.

It's currently a VPS rented from Strato.de, one of the biggest German hosting providers.

Since I'm paying out of my own pocket I currently don't want to afford a colocated server, even though I realise that'd be cooler and possibly more secure.

I'll try to have a detailed cost overview online somewhere soon-ish.

Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @08:46AM (#24304185)
Ah right, thanks. I'll edit my profile to include it in my bio.
Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @05:32AM (#24303004)
I can only speak for tilde.fun, but it's helpful to not have any users currently (^^) and disable outside communication apart from ~/html/ where our users can put static files into.

Most tilde sites don't have public mail servers and only federate mail between them and other tilde servers. See also https://tilde.team/.

Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @05:11AM (#24302872)
Send me an email and I get you an account on tilde.fun.

It's pretty defunct right now but I'd like to have some actual users ;)

No need for any personal info besides your email address.

Re:tilde.town: A social network over SSH on Friday August 28, 2020 @05:09AM (#24302860)
I run tilde.fun. It's currently defunct but I'm migrating the site to a new server today.

We have an SSH signup form with no need for any personal details but an email address, written in Python, in the making (https://code.tilde.fun/tilde/ssh-reg) I'd really like to automate account creation and have someone look over it before I actually deploy it.

Write me an email (address in my profile) if you're interested in helping run/develop this or some MB of free HTML web hosting.

We are two admins and run a few other services (https://wiki.tilde.fun/tilde/start lists some of them). We want to take back the internet from megacorps into the hands of users. I have an empty server just waiting for some people with dank HTML skills!

Want to bet some people will integrate this into their "prod" Docker containers?
Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @12:19PM (#24252935)
If I see more than one language in a repo or the developers' names sound foreign to me, I'm more likely to check out their profile.

I always love to find out more about (development) culture in other parts of the world. Can you elaborate a bit on how it's 'bold' to use your own language in a README or docs? Do you find it annoying?

Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @12:05PM (#24252811)
What's a sbdfl?

I used Seafile and it's great but it has a pretty hard paywall.

Gitea is just great. In conjunction with Drone it's the most elegant CI/CD platform I know.

Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @12:02PM (#24252791)
Yes, and there are more developers on Github from Singapore now than a few years ago (in my perception).

I wonder what platform they used before but I don't know any of them personally. I only read their Github bios.

Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @11:59AM (#24252772)
Asians should not forget their roots. I love to see docs and READMEs in more than one language!
Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @11:52AM (#24252725)
Racists exist. They hate people.
Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @11:51AM (#24252717)
I think you misunderstood.

You're racist because a racist said so. We're all equal.

Re:RSSHub: Everything Is RSSible on Sunday August 23, 2020 @11:47AM (#24252695)
As soon as I hit 'send' on my message I knew someone would agree because more people in FOSS is a great thing, but someone else would find a way to make the followup comment look racist.

It sucks that I can't even say 'I love Asians' without being tagged as racist. It sucks that I can't have prejudice against or for some people. We are not all equal, and if you pretend we are, YOU are racist. I recommend the sketch 'I don't see race' by collegehumor: https://youtu.be/5qArvBdHkJA

I repeat what I said countless times the past few years: A country is not its people. Even if you pretend it's a democracy.

That said, I hate America for ruining the world's economy and environment. I love most Americans though. Hang in there.

Maybe you want to look into your perception of the world in contrast to facts. Some bias in there apparently.
It's not about running the homeserver but not leaving metadata behind. At least this is how I understood it.
There is no faith that the Telegram polls use less bias data, or any data, really.
