What really helped me grok git was
https://git-man-page-generator.lokaltog.net/ which taught me that the commands and the documentation of git really are pure nonsense, which relieved me from the feeling that I just wasn't seeing the underlying beauty.
Don't bother with napkins. The data is open. TNC trips average about 150k / weekday [1], BART carries about 415k trips / weekday [2], and Muni carries about 750k [3]. Thus, public transportation carries about 8x more people, with the caveat that not all BART journeys start or end in SF.
On the other hand, 99% of vehicle trips in SF are either private cars or TNCs.
Neither of these was my point, though. My point was that comparing cost between a per-trip price and a per-person price will always favor the former when there are multiple people. But most trips don't involve multiple people, which is why such an analysis is besides the point.

This is cherry-picking. It always makes more sense to take a car service when multiple people start and end at the same places and can easily coordinate (e.g. a married couple). But this tells us nothing about the average outcome. The _average_ car contains only 1 person.
How did you conclude this? There are other similarly-priced but more-numerous models of car where literally nobody has ever died after crashing one. Controlling for price (as a proxy for the wealth of the occupants) Tesla has a poor safety record.
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. I don't know what the "research scientist" ladder looks like but "senior" is the median grade of software engineers. Half of SWEs are Senior or higher.
Maybe they're getting voted down because the ECHR hasn't got anything to do with the EU.
I'm not talking about company officers or other insiders. I'm talking about stock promotion scams, which are the great majority of SEC enforcement actions. Consider for example the SEC action taken against biotech penny stock promoters last Friday.
"The pump-and-dump scheme, allegedly orchestrated by a Frost associate named Barry Honig, took place between 2013 and 2018. According to the SEC, Honig coordinated an effort to buy up shares at a discount, pay a third party to write laudatory articles on Wall Street forums, and then sell those shares for a profit."
You live in a parallel universe. Short sellers peddling fake news are largely mythical. Virtually every SEC enforcement action has been against pump-and-dump scams dealing in false positive analysis. The short side is just realistic and they don’t spread rumors, because it’s better for them when the bad news is a surprise to other investors. SEC enforcement against short sellers for public statements are incredibly rare.
I worked out in 2005 that the money spent on these wars is enough to have bought all of non-urbanized Canada, which seems like a better investment.
Whole Bay Area, I guess. Remember, the city of Richmond (California) passed a resolution against orbiting mind-control satellites. It’s juat wacky around here.
Tried that, Backup-N-Sync just puts them up again.
If it makes you feel better, the discussion of 5G on Nextdoor in Oakland was and remains bonkers. It’s not Marin, it’s people of a certain age. There just happens to be more of them in Marin.
Yeah, sharp edges everywhere. My favorite feature is if it can’t convert your raw images to JPEG, instead of skipping them it stores them in Drive as non-photo data, which can fill up your quota and cause your Gmail account to stop receiving mail. It’s probably the worst software that Google has put their brand on.
Wow, fantastic! This will allow me to drag Google’s sync app for Mac directly into the trash, which I’ve been dying to do for years! Then I can write some kind of program that finds the duplicated medium, small, and thumbnail sizes of all my photos, and the cropped faces, that Google senselessly uploaded from my Aperture/Photos library to the tune of 4 million+ garbage files. This API could make it possible for me to actually get value from Google Photos again.
