Re:First all-electric seaplane takes flight in B.C. on Thursday December 12, 2019 @04:25AM (#21770516)
Yes, but it takes 100's of thousands of years for the planet to form fossil fuels such as coal. We can't wait that long.

Breastfeeding is optimal for a baby. We are not responsible for hiding facts from mothers in order to manage their feelings of guilt.
I would think weather conditions on any given day would vary this number wildly

At least the wallet and keys offer some redundancy should you lose/break your phone.
Re:Ukraine crisis: Parliament abolishes anti-protest law on Tuesday January 28, 2014 @09:36AM (#7137232)
So? The Ukranians didn't want the US and EU laws for their country.
How else would I have seen the correlating bubble graph to the bitcoin chart if not for this Forbes link today?
Re:The Sanskrit verse for the value of pi on Sunday December 15, 2013 @06:03AM (#6909026)
Not BS, take the equator as the circumference and a weighted average between sea level and the highest point on that line for the constant circular path and you'll have a measurement relative to pi.

Hack and warp Buddypress for us.

We can pay you, it's a long term gig, probably life long. We are a startup and what we are building has not yet been done on the internet - anywhere. Expect around $150 US a week at the start, $150K+ salary plus benefits later on. The plans are in place, you will be the final key piece. If you have completed at least one significant Buddypress based roll-out, can code just like-a-ringin'-a-bell...

Re:Did these guys just reinvent the Web? on Thursday October 17, 2013 @06:38AM (#6564501)
"We were 14 times faster than compiled C in Chrome..." I feel this part needs clarification. As I understand it the "in Chrome" part is key, as they were bypassing the browser and interpreting javascript through compiled C (matrix3d).
I think TylerE's point is that further 50% gains in six months are not guaranteed. You can look at any stock index and find assets that spiked in a similar manner. Had you invested in those, you would have made the same return without having to buy, store and run hardware.
Re:French National Police Switch 37,000 Desktop PCs to Linux on Tuesday October 01, 2013 @05:20AM (#6475056)
Slow clap from Linux users everywhere. I think we are so jaded that some of us prefer the masses to remain ignorant to the fact of a more powerful, more stable and free OS. Things have become familiar this way.
Suicide is something that can never be fully controlled. It may be illegal to do it, but it's a literal inalienable right, no matter how strong the law against it.
Re:Web development in C: Crazy? on Wednesday September 18, 2013 @11:21AM (#6405801)
While that may be true for the short term, what about the power, maintenance, storage etc costs that recur? I'm not sure a C dev's pay is equal to the running costs of a server farm...
Re:Web development in C: Crazy? on Wednesday September 18, 2013 @08:37AM (#6404842)
When you get 90x the performance using C rather than PHP, the only thing stopping its use is human resources. To put it into perspective, you would need 90 PHP servers to do the same work in the same time as a single C server. Any more debate?
Indeed, "God will oversee this transaction and make sure everything goes smoothly for us faithful." Ka-Ching.
Pretty sure it alerts the system that there are pedestrians waiting to cross, otherwise why stop traffic if no-one is there?
Re:It's not the $7, but the principle on Saturday August 31, 2013 @06:17PM (#6308339)
Someone downvoted me. Probably didn't get the analogy, so I'll spell it out. The gold mine = a subscriber. The nuking of said mine = fleecing the subscriber on his/her first payment and thus losing the subscription.
Re:It's not the $7, but the principle on Saturday August 31, 2013 @07:03AM (#6306493)
Here's a gold mine that will pay out for years, perhaps decades. Let's nuke the mine and get an extra 1/5th on the first payout, sacrificing all future gains. Real smart there boys.
Why is this comment getting downvoted? I see that it adds insight to the subject and makes some good points, which OP even acknowledges. The written complaint is that revelation is not being deferential enough, which is bullshit on an in-depth technical discussion.
Agreed about the Scion iQ, but that design isn't terrible. Having watched the BMW's promo video (which shows it in its best light), the car doesn't look out of place on today's roads and appears quite practical for a "typical" suburban lifestyle.
The styling, while not the best BMW have come up with, seems to be consistent with their current direction. It certainly is not as ugly as the Pontiac Aztec to which the author equates it, IMHO.
My first thought at this story was that the action serves to legitimise bitcoin as a means of exchange. If the Ponzi scheme had been peanut-denominated, would the SEC have taken action?
Re:Peers call for a pardon for Alan Turing [video] on Saturday July 20, 2013 @09:13AM (#6075125)
The fact that we have "Sirs" Ian and Elton is proof that we have moved on. It is a different world since Turing's time. We also used to burn people alive for heresy. An official apology was gesture enough on this matter.
Re:Gesture Control in JS using Webcam on Friday July 05, 2013 @10:13AM (#5994916)
I sometimes use this http://www.cameramouse.org/ when both my hands are too cramped to hold the mouse any more. I also find it fun to play with.
Re:How Google is Killing Organic Search on Monday July 01, 2013 @12:47PM (#5971840)
Let them greed themselves into irrelevance I say. That leaves the door open for some YC startup to implement some type of peer to peer search protocol that will leave google in the dust.
