Re:Japan’s population drops by half a million in 2022 on Thursday April 13, 2023 @06:01PM (#35562704)
I mean in the end everyone gets more space and opportunity that’s not a bad thing. Quality of life and gdp are not the same thing
Re:When Will the Housing Market Crash? on Tuesday April 11, 2023 @10:17PM (#35534267)
It’s declining quickly so perhaps it already has but prices are sticky and don’t move down more than 15-20 % a year
Yeah never patch unless it’s broken
The iq test can drop its standardized at 100 meaning average person scores 100. You have to standardize it for different population groups which cases issues when you test non represented populations
No they can’t otherwise wages would have been up 30% in the last 5 years
They will lag so people will be poorer
Maybe we never set ours up. No reason to do that unless the utility changes rates based on time of use

Who pays nurses more just because they are good? In a lot of professions rates are set by governments or institutions and there is not enough competition between businesses for wages.

Ok but correct for taxes subtract healthcare, add npv of pensions, dental and child care. I think you would end up much closer maybe even ahead for France. Also mean per capital lies because you have to average in besos and musk. Median is a better metric
A large portion of your food bill is rent. High rent prices show up as high food costs high store prices and higher prices for services
A lot of people don’t understand how time poor middle and lower class Americans are. Lower class jobs rob people off of their time by forcing long commutes and inefficient child care arrangements. People end up eating junk because they are too tired to cook and haven’t had the time to learn to cook when they were younger.

I assume that’s a product of house price inflation. Or because you count mandatory retirement savings. If you did the same calculation in France for NPV of pension you would probably get a similar or better result
Re:I wish GPT4 had never happened on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:31PM (#35497313)
That’s not true. Many companies people at provide them little to no incentive to work harder or better, yet still a lot of people try to do so.
Re:Amazon tells employees it isn’t falling behind on AI on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:27PM (#35497279)
I think Amazon doesn’t even know what they are selling anymore because sellers are gaming the algorithm and swapping items out after they get good reviews.
If you can get it. Wait times are 3-6 months sometimes 2 years
It actually will require additional infrastructure or at least some changes to metering to encourage nightly charging instead of at like 5pm
Re:America Is Back in the Factory Business on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:15PM (#35497156)
Data centers. And it’s centrally located
Re:America Is Back in the Factory Business on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:14PM (#35497147)
Yeah but it adds a month of flow when you need to make clothes to the latest trends that’s way too long. Also you want to try samples and inspect the process so you need people on site all that adds friction.
Re:America Is Back in the Factory Business on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:09PM (#35497101)
I mean if of course it’s not coming back. Clothing has a huge labor component and labor is expensive in the USA. Way cheaper to pay 1$ a day than 20$ an hour.

But even if you fixed that the sub component infrastructure isn’t there. The raw fabrics are simply not available here so even if you did pay labor of 160/$ a day you would still not be able to get raw materials

Re:Everything advertised on social media is overpriced junk on Saturday April 08, 2023 @04:02PM (#35497029)
I think it’s the celebrity endorsements. They really live in the Jordan name/brand. Kind of like adidas lives on soccer and for a while yeezy branding.

Nike quality is atrocious materials are garbage grade but shoes still sell for 200+
Most people who are that rich engage in some sort of lawbreaking behavior to get there. Those that rose slower were able to build a history of political contributions and buy influence to protect against prosecution. If you rose to greatness in 5 years you are likely to get exposed and have not enough favors owed to get out of prosecution
Re:Was I wrong about the Covid infection fatality rate? on Thursday April 06, 2023 @09:08AM (#35467853)
Ignore the problem and pretend it doesn’t exist
Re:Entrepreneurs who regret starting businesses on Tuesday April 04, 2023 @09:19AM (#35439134)
Yeah but hitting 300-500k is still quite comfortable
