Re:Dropbox introduces new API features on Tuesday July 09, 2013 @06:05PM (#6015916)
Seems like this is in direct competition with Parse.

I look forward to kicking the tires, since I've been looking for a solid replacement for Parse ever since Facebook bought them.

Re:Soylent Campaign on Tuesday May 21, 2013 @05:43PM (#5747111)
The launch of this campaign is about a month and a half late. It would have been much more appropriate to launch on April 1st.
Re:I hired someone with Asperger's – now what? on Friday April 12, 2013 @11:20AM (#5538966)
Wow. I really wish that I had the karma to downvote this incorrect and totally insensitive comment.
Re:The new Acer Chromebook on Monday November 12, 2012 @01:36PM (#4774060)
3.5 hours of battery? For a laptop in 2012? Seriously?
Re:Microsoft reports first quarterly loss ever on Thursday July 19, 2012 @05:37PM (#4268188)
How does Steve Ballmer still have a job? I don't think that you could find a less inspirational, more pointy-haired boss tech executive.

Microsoft needs another visionary at the helm, or it will never make a comeback.

Re:What the hell is an information architect? on Monday June 25, 2012 @11:09AM (#4156827)
I'm wondering if this posting is a practical joke of some sort. The post linked to here is so dense with vocabulary, yet somehow lacks any meaningful content.

I kept reading only to see if there was a punchline at the bottom. Something to the effect of: "See? All that crap written above really cries out for some information architecture, doesn't it?"

Re:Light Table is in YCS12 on Friday May 18, 2012 @11:49AM (#3992460)
This is very exciting news! I see this as being a very good thing for both Light Table and Clojure in general.
I don't really care what I get for my money. I was just glad to have an opportunity to support a prolific developer that is making the Clojure community a better place.
Re:Starting Clojure (mk. 2) on Thursday May 03, 2012 @01:25PM (#3924788)
I cannot wait to play with Clojure using Light Table (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/306316578/light-table). I only wish that the timeline for delivery was shorter. I have trouble being patient...
Neat idea. How do you plan to monetize?
Re:Dell launches Ultrabook for $999 on Tuesday February 28, 2012 @03:05PM (#3644721)
Is this posted because the Ultrabook is interesting, or because the scroll-to-animate functionality of the website is interesting? For me, it's the latter, since I have long forsaken Dell.

Once the site loaded completely (which took a fair bit of time), I was able to use scrolling to move forward/backward through the animation of the demo. This is certainly an interesting UX, but after about 20 seconds of this I found it cumbersome.

I'm really glad to see this. This looks like a great resource, and with community contributions will only continue to get better.
I think that Amazon should probably admit the error and pay the guy. However, the publicity that the author is now receiving over this is probably worth far more than the price of 6,000 books.

In the end, he'll probably be secretly thanking Amazon for allowing him to rise above obscurity.

Re:A Screencast On Refactoring JavaScript on Monday October 31, 2011 @11:25AM (#3177680)
I think this is the way to go. Offer folks one or two shorter examples of your work for free, and they will be more comfortable with purchasing your longer works.

If the free examples are solid, then they will be linked to and shared. This will help establish your name and expertise in the subject matter, and will bring many more eyeballs to your site, which will hopefully convert into sales.

Re:Up and Running with Clojure on Thursday October 20, 2011 @04:44PM (#3136889)
Thanks for sharing. I'm coming up to speed with Noir myself, and it's very helpful to see how others are building their websites with it.
Re:Google AI Challenge 2011 on Wednesday October 19, 2011 @11:01AM (#3130427)
What? No Clojure starter package yet?! C'mon, Google!
Re:If this then that on Wednesday September 07, 2011 @04:47PM (#2971364)
This is one of those "why didn't I think of that?" ideas that will probably become huge. Nicely done!
Re:Google App Engine leaves preview, new pricing on Wednesday August 31, 2011 @05:55PM (#2947742)
Wow - According to their projections based on current usage, I'm seeing a 100x increase in my daily cost. I guess I will be migrating off of App Engine. I'm feeling pretty burned at this point.
Re:The Revenues of a Moderately Successful iPad App on Friday August 12, 2011 @04:46PM (#2879176)
Thanks for sharing. The diary/journal app space is pretty crowded, otherwise I think you would be selling a lot more apps. The one thing that I noticed is that there aren't many reviews. I think that reviews are key when someone is evaluating your app for purchase.
Re:Faceplanting: an app launch horror story with a twist on Tuesday August 02, 2011 @02:01PM (#2838078)
Thanks for sharing your experience. While it's great that your app got featured by Apple, it would have been more informative if you could have gauged the effect of your updates to the app before the Featured App effect kicked in.
I think that a tool like this would be really great for students learning how to program. It allows them to experiment without the sometimes daunting task of having to set up a development environment.

I can definitely envision an application like this being used in the classroom.

Re:Designing GitHub for Mac on Tuesday June 28, 2011 @05:03PM (#2707320)
I've been enjoying the app these last few days. Nice job! It's a great add-on to an already killer service. I'm quite happy to send the folks at Github some of my money each month, because they really earn it.
Re:Code School now open to the public on Tuesday March 22, 2011 @12:22PM (#2355046)
Rails for Zombies is brilliant. Very high-quality stuff, and the website design is beautiful. I can't wait to see their JS courses.
Great page, and thanks for the link to Girl Talk. It's massaging my eardrums right now. Creative Commons license FTW!
Re:Investors? What do you think this is… Twitter? on Friday March 04, 2011 @05:46PM (#2290154)
There is humor embedded all over the site. I especially love the "el Pollo Diablo" plan.
Re:Random dude claims he co-created my app on Thursday January 13, 2011 @11:55AM (#2100407)
All your app are belong to us.
Re:Previewing the Atlas Shrugged Movie on Monday January 03, 2011 @04:10PM (#2064685)
I was interested until I read this: "... the movie is in three parts, each separated by approximately a year ..."

Really? 3 parts? Sounds like they are really milking this for all it's worth (a-la Harry Potter 7). Is it in 3D too?

Personally, I would have liked to see a single, longer movie. I think you could distill the essence of the book into a movie 2-3 hours long.

Re:Starting with Lisp: A collection of beginner pointers on Wednesday December 15, 2010 @12:37PM (#2008956)
Just got through reading the first suggested item in the Background section: http://www.defmacro.org/ramblings/lisp.html

I recommend this to anyone interested in learning about the appeal of Lisp. It's well-written, and lays a nice foundation for those trying to figure out what all the buzz surrounding Lisp is about. I'm sold.
