The color scheme was really confusing for me too. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple as farthest away to closest maybe?
Re:Sex, aggression, and humour: responses to unicycling on Tuesday January 23, 2024 @11:38AM (#39105704)
It would be interesting to contrast the unicycle experience with tandem bike experiences. When I ride my tandem bike with a partner I almost universally experience smiles and happy waves from people that see us.

I can ride a unicycle and rode it more often as a teenager. Lots of comments about getting lost from the circus. But they were meant to be funny. I think.

A traditional geosynchronous satellite is 22,000 miles above you. A starlink satellite is only 340 miles above you. And when you are outside you have a great line of sight with nothing in the way.
Re:RIP HTTP on Tuesday May 02, 2023 @11:14PM (#35797402)
See neverssl.com.

It has been around for a long time and is useful for making sure you see Wifi terms pages.

My wife has the same issue. I say turn "your side" or turn "my side."
It is a nice idea. But I don't believe Facebook actually follows through on letting you mute or unfollow people. Their posts will slowly creep back into the main timeline that you see.
Re:Interview with Roald Dahl (1982) [video] on Thursday November 10, 2022 @03:57PM (#33553237)
Check out The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More if you didn't read it when you were young.

The zero period classes are still allowed to happen.
Re:macOS Multi-Monitor Problems on Friday May 13, 2022 @12:35AM (#31363361)
By default you can't. But it is a preference you can change to enable it.

System Preferences > Mission Control > Displays have separate Spaces

Re:Slack’s Incident on 2-22-22 on Tuesday April 26, 2022 @10:11PM (#31175475)
This is very transparent and a good write-up. I wonder if someone at Slack could explain how they calculate their downtime on their status page. This outage was for 3 hours and 14 minutes but they claim 99.79% uptime for the month of February.
Re:I'm a security engineer and I still almost got scammed on Thursday April 21, 2022 @12:21PM (#31111484)
I also thought of this prior post. I believe it is the same scam and written up by someone also claiming to be a security researcher. It seems too on the nose to be a coincidence.
Re:I took down my Starlink dish (but haven't cancelled) on Thursday February 03, 2022 @09:59AM (#30193228)
Article looks and sounds like clickbait. One of the fundamental aspects of starlink is the internet access and speed you will get. That doesn't seem to be covered here. You took down your starlink because you couldn't transfer it to someone else, are afraid of the damage starlink is doing to astronomy, and you don't like the design decisions about the new dish that you don't even have? Sorry, this doesn't make any sense.
Re:Omicron at 100% Prevalence, Colorado on Thursday January 06, 2022 @02:33PM (#29828705)
I am curious how you know it was Omicron. Was it sequenced and they told you that?
Sellers never should have give you the keys until they had the money. That is on them.
Re:AWS us-east-1 outage on Tuesday December 07, 2021 @12:00PM (#29475028)
We have a SMS text thread with about 12 people that we send one message on the first of every month. To make sure it is tested and ready to be used for communications if all other comms networks are down.
Re:Princeton admits record-low 3.98% of applicants on Friday April 16, 2021 @11:46AM (#26835335)
Many schools, including Princeton, did not require an SAT or ACT score last year. And they say they will not require it this year either.
Re:Dominion Voting Systems Sues Rudy Giuliani on Monday January 25, 2021 @05:35PM (#25909897)
The electronic voting machines I use in Southern California actually print my selections on a piece of paper that I can look at under a little piece of plastic. I approve that it shows my votes accurately and then the paper slides away. Presumably kept with the machine so an audit could be done.
This app held the attention of the kids in the middle school and high school near me for about 7 days. Then they got bored of it and all stopped playing.
I don't see it happening and here is why-- when was the last time you used a computer + operating system + software that you would trust your life with?

Out of nowhere we are expected to believe that a new computing platform is going to appear that is not going to be susceptible to bugs, viruses, and hacking? If it was possible to create such a platform, why don't we already have it?

Re:Android Geofencing is broken and how we fixed it on Wednesday September 23, 2015 @12:09PM (#10265896)
I'm curious how default Android geofencing performance compares to iOS. As a heavy find my friends user I am surprised my kids usually walk into the house from their walk home from school by the time find friends even knows they left.
Re:Ask HN: What apps did/do you use for cold calling? on Saturday April 19, 2014 @08:54PM (#7615343)
You could try phoneburner.com.
Re:MailChimp Annual Report on Tuesday January 15, 2013 @04:06PM (#5062998)
I'm interested in the 39,975 party poopers. Does that mean they kicked 39,975 users out for abuse?
Re:I hired my friends and family, and I’d do it again. on Wednesday October 03, 2012 @01:12PM (#4608460)
I think that is why it works well for me and my brother. I handle the tech and he handles everything else.
Re:I hired my friends and family, and I’d do it again. on Wednesday October 03, 2012 @12:53PM (#4608376)
My older brother admits he likes working with me and would do it again... now I have it in writing!

It is incredible how many people hear about our team which includes quite a few family members and say they can't imagine working with their brother (or sister, cousin, or whatever) but it works well for us. I can't imagine it any other way.
