2SLGBTQIA+ advancement in various countries to detriment of all else and sponsoring of any elected government that do not confer their electorate with USAID and State department.
Re:Missiles Are Now the Biggest Killer of Airline Passengers on Saturday December 28, 2024 @12:51AM (#42528911)
most sensible explanation
rustup update
this is amazing yet docs are lacking as per instruction to install: "cargo install lsp-ai -F llama_cpp -F metal"

one gets: Package `lsp-ai v0.1.0` does not have feature `llama-cpp-2`. It has an optional dependency with that name, but that dependency uses the "dep:" syntax in the features table, so it does not have an implicit feature with that name.

not very clear what enabling feature is beyond specifying the flag whether to download git clone and build etc.

Re:An air quality model that is evolving with the times on Tuesday May 28, 2024 @11:39PM (#40508218)
I like how that freon patent was running out and people coaxed up ozone hole scare alleging that using hair spray and freezers as it would irradiate everyone and kill life on earth. Science establishment gave generous window dressing to this, now firmly forgotten as adjacent patented and as "ozone depleting" as previous ones.
Re:API Shouldn't Redirect HTTP to HTTPS on Tuesday May 28, 2024 @11:35PM (#40508182)
"This unencrypted part of the communication flow has its flaws. Third parties in shared networks, as well as network intermediaries, could sniff passwords and other secrets from the initial HTTP traffic or even impersonate the web server with a MITM attack."

A strawman fallacy.

Re:Meta outage on Tuesday March 05, 2024 @02:24PM (#39608051)

Re:Ooh.directory on Wednesday November 23, 2022 @10:18AM (#33720202)
it would be helpful if there was some sort of rss aggregator functionality. Ie google reader that used to be.
Re:Keeping a project bisectable on Friday August 05, 2022 @12:22AM (#32351620)
when you have dozens contributing to unstable CI builds it can be hard as hard as keeping CI builds sane. For a project that is 10+ years old. I try to use git bisect but I have to do it in a few steps because over a range file can have multiple failures and failure you need might be somewhere I between start and some failure that was fixed within the range. Or multiple failures.
Not if you smoke cigarettes and eat cheese with bread(like pizza). I feel such studies are dubious for specific people. Instead understanding of kinetics of мetabolic system probably better way forward.

That I don't really remember statistics of science experiments.

Re:[ASK HN] how to filter out MSM media from YouTube feed? on Saturday March 26, 2022 @12:11PM (#30813079)
Does not work channels still show up cnn fox and so on
I will try, generally if you have good diaries keeping their cow healthy happy and clean it is non issue, but interests of corporate mega producers they can't guarantee such thing at scale. So to protect them and people from them these laws are made kind of impossible triangle.

You can't do raw milk at scale - so no one will be allowed to. Raw milk yogurt and cottage cheese is out of this world my mom(Russian) and friends in Lithuania with a farm make this as well at the farm and the difference is night and day. you really should try full fat raw milk cottage cheese with honey and walnuts.

Re:Postico: A Modern PostgreSQL Client for the Mac on Friday March 25, 2022 @04:42AM (#30799825)
this replacement for excel for PG is nice but as a developer I live in Tmux across many servers and in many scripts so I am not sure how good it is in this sort of way.
Re:Using FujiFilm SDK on a Camera Voids Its Warranty on Friday March 25, 2022 @03:01AM (#30799375)
Raw video on M magic lantern looks absolutely stunning unless you explicitly need 4K to my eye and manipulation beats hands down droll quality of compressed video.
Re:Spotify and Google Announce User Choice Billing on Thursday March 24, 2022 @12:36AM (#30786416)
some cards might work with google play and not spotify, I was like that when I got to a country my uber did not work anymore with my old cards but I added cards to google play and paid for my ride this way. choice is good.
Re:Does the EU's ban on RT also ban Tor? on Thursday March 03, 2022 @12:34AM (#30537523)
Point reference - I try to block RT on YouTube but videos are being sprinkled into recommended list and I try to click to not show this channel anymore, but it persists. Real annoying, if I have autoplay their vids would jump on the list as well as I am preoccupied. Not sure how they are gaming YT algo.
Re:Tell HN: Udacity dark pattern to cancel a subscription on Monday February 07, 2022 @10:23PM (#30254563)
I get a kick out of cancellation of internations social networking site cancel threats:

You still owe €32.85 for your Albatross Membership subscription. Your payment has been overdue since 05 Feb 2020 and we have sent multiple emails to notify you.

Since your Albatross Membership subscription is a legal contract, it can only be terminated by following the proper cancellation procedure. Withholding your payment for a service you subscribed to is not equivalent to cancelling your contract.

If your balance remains unpaid, we’re legally required to follow a debt collection process and additional administrative fees may apply.

send photos of your passport etc and and append a form filled out saying that you are filing a complaint with FDIC, they wake up real quick, fines are substantial there.
Am at paypal this is every year in compliance videos, there must be terrible and inept bureaucracy - not sure what is that side of the story. but i can see them no wanting to invite ire of regulatory punishments. go to small claims court if its a small sum. you should not keep large sums at any online outfit, paypal, coinbase or others. Even bank account is a suspect space, better stow money in money market funds for quick liquidity, its super easy to defraud it.

Ask HN: New to a system with maintenance in mind and no sparse docs

I have been hired a year ago to work for a company to maintain and update system that we do not have very good documentation for nor do I have insightful knowledge of the tools that are used to maintain and so on.Wonder if there is a good rule of thumb to keep working on the system if there is a lot of time between support requests. Like writing additional tests, interference testing to find...

Re:English has been my pain for 15 years (2013) on Wednesday December 22, 2021 @03:52AM (#29646977)
In russia I was introvert but my english teacher's love of english turned to english lover and more of an extrovert. Way that insinuation works in English is brilliant and how I liked to compress what I am saying, russian is very intricate but verbose language, I found home in English though being down to the center bi-cultural, bi-lingual. Generally I feel english is so super efficient and dramatic language but russian is a feeling language kind of more precise but also heavy.

My mind being slow I prefer English and it makes me more extraverted, russian being good with close friends but clumsy with external world. 2c.
