Re:How to sell an app idea? on Sunday December 08, 2013 @11:35AM (#6870127)
You can't sell an idea. Prove you can build it. Then prove that what you built is worth something by getting people to use it.

Where are you? Any co-working spaces near you? We're spoiled here in the SF Bay Area.
Re:Career reorientation, best way to get into programming/CS? on Saturday March 23, 2013 @06:54PM (#5430143)
Keep studying. Get coding. Do side projects. Do as much as you can. Study up on typical basics that interviews normally ask... data structures, algorithms, etc. You're smart and passionate - I don't know about your area but here in the SF Bay Area I don't think it'd be too hard to find something.

I haven't found anything specific for iOS to Android, but I started with an earlier version of these videos from Marakana - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RHtKIo_KDI

Nice. The piece mentions something about TWC trying to push people into contracts, any idea if that's true?
Start with the Stanford course. It's the best free resource out there. Find a local meetup. Go to a couple hackathons.

re: other comments -

Apple's docs aren't great, in fact I hate them. Haven't put my finger on why.

I like some of the controls at http://cocoacontrols.com

I wouldn't start with Arc. Especially since you're comfortable in C.

Re:Ask HN: How do I start freelancing? on Sunday January 29, 2012 @03:14PM (#3526078)
A portfolio is a quick way for someone who doesn't know you to get an idea of what you're capable of. Try and get a gig through people that know you, they won't need you to prove as much. What type of gig are you looking for? What are your skills? What skills are you trying to improve?
Re:Ask HN: Development on a 13" air? on Friday September 23, 2011 @01:04PM (#3030705)
13" is just too small for me. I'm on a 15" MBP and love it. Yeah, would love it more if it was lighter.
took me 3 tries to find their website. also funny that they chose that name... given that streaming is a hell of a lot qwicker than mail.
