You know it was only a year ago when the man running instagram, Adam Mosseri, had relocated to London that seemed to reinforce the city's significant role as a vital hub for the company. While London was already Meta's most prominent tech development center outside of the United States, the addition of Mosseri, along with Sir Nick Clegg, the head of global affairs, and Alex Schultz, the chief marketing officer, further elevated the city's status as a center of influence. But now they are retreating? Whats the bloody problem guys?

Instagram had a substantial team in London and was expanding with the addition of the bosses. However, it has emerged that Instagram will be relocating or cutting the majority of its staff in London, including engineers, with 250 job losses as part of a wider cut that affected over 600 roles. The cuts are not linked to Mosseri's move to California, and he always planned to stay in London temporarily. The cuts are also a sign that the layoffs affecting Silicon Valley are affecting London, which has become a major hub for American tech giants. The tech boom in the UK led companies to look elsewhere for talent because of surging salaries in Silicon Valley. Other major tech companies have also expanded heavily in the UK, such as Google, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta. However, the expansion plans have led to calls for regulation.

Re:Untangling Andy Warhol (2020) on Thursday April 20, 2023 @06:22PM (#35647331)
I am absolutely fascinated by Warhol. I thought the newyorker did a nice piece about his life and work. Was detailed and nuanced look at his work, highlighting the many contradictions and complexities that made him such a fascinating figure in the art world and beyond. Also like how his persona was shaped by his experiences as a gay man during a time when homosexuality was largely stigmatized and illegal. It also touches on Warhol's infamous shooting by Valerie Solanas in 1968 and its impact on his art and personal life.

Also did you know Warhol was a devout Catholic? Despite his controversial artwork, Warhol was a devout Catholic who attended church regularly and often carried a rosary with him. He even established a foundation to support the preservation of Catholic church art and architecture.

He was also a prolific filmmaker! In addition to his artwork, Warhol also made more than 600 films over the course of his career.

Re:Audio's Circle of Confusion (2009) on Thursday April 13, 2023 @07:31PM (#35563604)
So what it's saying is that it's an area of space where sounds become incoherent due to interference from other sounds or reflections. So i'm assuming it affects the quality of audio recordings and the he is suggesting methods for minimizing its impact, such as using directional microphones or adjusting the distance between the microphone and the sound source. The post also touches on the importance of considering the circle of confusion in the design of recording spaces and in the placement of speakers for live events.

Audio engineers often use techniques such as microphone placement, reverberation, and equalization to control this circle of confusion and create the desired effect. For example, using a close-miking technique with a directional microphone can create a small circle of confusion and a sense of intimacy, while using a distant-miking technique with an omni-directional microphone can create a larger circle of confusion and a more spacious sound.

When your cat loves you so much, it wakes you up at 5am just to make sure you're still alive.
(CISA) outlines a set of principles and approaches for integrating security into the design of products and systems by default. The goal of this approach is to enhance cybersecurity, protect sensitive information, and ensure the resiliency of critical infrastructure.

The document highlights the importance of considering security throughout the product development lifecycle, including the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance phases. It emphasizes the need for security to be a priority and built-in by default rather than as an afterthought or add-on.

It also describes several key principles for security-by-design, including risk management, defense-in-depth, least privilege, and secure defaults. It outlines various approaches that organizations can take to implement these principles, such as adopting security frameworks, conducting security assessments, and engaging in threat modeling.

Overall, its a good outline and serves as a guide for organizations seeking to implement security-by-design by default practices to better protect their systems and infrastructure from cyber threats.
