Who the hell would think putting a datacentre in one of the most actively seismic countries on the planet is a good idea? I'm puzzled. Pretty good initiative other than that.
Jesus H Christ! the bug is a narrow use-after-free race that needs SYNs carrying ipv4 options to make it to the box. I do not need an army of honeypots to tell you it most likely doesnt to have a way into a classic 443 machine... come one now.
Re:Apple reports fourth quarter results on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:42PM (#50345848)
Yeah. I mean, I guess I could go out of my way to make it work, but I'm halfway being nostalgic. Why cant they just keep doing the same form factor?? Anyway. Im on linux these days, I get gaming too thanks to Gabe, so i cant complain... but if there was ever a 27" imac, I'd put my money were my mouth is.
Re:Apple reports fourth quarter results on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:53PM (#50345196)
One thing I can tell about Apple is they could make at least a few grand extra in any quarter if they were to bring back the 27' iMac
I know something. Every fucking server with public facing infrastructure is not getting hacked left and right at the moment.

So you make of that what you will, but in my experience it means the exploitation comes hand in hand with some far more esoteric chain that is not easy to put in practice.

Take it easy Grok
I have not seen an exploit in the wild. I have at least 20 different servers unpatched (obviously) but the risk is blown way out of proportion. There are a number of mitigation options available.

I wish life was that easy.

Re:Trigger.dev customer environment variables exposed on Monday November 02, 2026 @04:18AM (#50334640)
Tailscale got hacked recently as well, didnt they (?). I think they did, the whole system is poisoned, because I believe one of the vectors had to do with eMudhra certs, which again, is not an issue specific to them, or something they had any say on it... there is literally no escape these days it would seem.
Re:Casio Watches of the 1980s on Saturday October 31, 2026 @02:13PM (#50318489)
Good point. I have recommended G-Shocks in the past, to people that, like yourself, like to be out there and do stuff... it is most definitely about lifestyle too. I dont garden and I dont really go out for long walks a la Into the Wild... so a mechanical is just fine to tell me its about time to fuck off from the office, but I get that its just not going to cut it if in the middle of nowhere running from bears.
Re:Casio Watches of the 1980s on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:45PM (#50318269)
True. It can be a pain in ass, but it can also be part of the allure... plus, you do also have non-mechanic analog beauties like some of these Citizens that come with the craziest thing, they automatically set the time based on radio towers in the northern hemisphere, i mean who the fuck thinks about stuff that? And they charge with light, not the sun, light... forgot the name of the technology... then you have the Bulova Super Seville that also has a super interesting quartz mechanism, keeps the heartbeat of the watch operating at a rate that makes the seconds hand move as if it was a mechanical watch, and battery last a decade or something... those also super interesting watches...
Re:Casio Watches of the 1980s on Saturday October 31, 2026 @01:20PM (#50318056)
I understand the massive difference between these and a mechanical watch, but I just cannot see myself ever using a digital watch. Ever... not even one these new super cool Garmin ones or even an Apple watch, I almost put them all in the same bag, including these Casio legendary watches.

There is something so beautiful about a mechanical watch... I am not even talking hyper expensive stuff, there's always Seiko, Citizen, Rotary and hundreds more... so its not a flex, its just an understanding of having to look at the time and not seeing a nasty digital number. Maybe its because i work looking at screens all day.

Unless you use AI.

Same people, same mute message; every time, with no delay. "Accept me, then I'll see if I want to accept you".

Fuck off.

How's Elon gonna sell his shitbox cars if the government doesnt step in? Other than to techbros, that is.
> That’s why people here, when they hear the fire alarm they just wait for it to go off

This literally happened to me last night, I was having dinner at my apartment, and suddenly I start hearing a smoke alarm, but not quite inside the apartment, I just kept having dinner thinking "bah, someone probably burned a toast".

Then it wont stop, I walk to door and hear people talking, still don't bother enough, wait a few minutes, then go out and my neighbor said "there are three fire trucks down there, I think it's a real one" hahhaha

The hallway was kind of hazy and smelled like burnt food, for sure... so I just grabbed my laptop and went out hahaa.

I don't get it, is this like an IDE for Claude Code + worktrees but proprietary and with added telemetry?
Re:Physicists trap a single antimatter particle for a month on Saturday October 24, 2026 @05:47AM (#50219635)
Definitely a matter of perspective.

I'd probably add the on-hold queue of Zone-H... and verified stuff from the past week. Maybe just the Special Defacement reports.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:37AM (#50178672)
The argument is, why would the common folk care about the future? Why should they be the ones making the sacrifices if hardly ever they any benefit? None of this concerns the type of person that can easily just move on to green technology, of course not, I am not talking about your average HN user, I am talking about the people that has become ever more invisible, poor and disenfranchised.

For these people, what does the future has to offer anyway? Why do think people are not having babies anymore?

If you live day by day, and that is all you can afford, what kind of future you think people going to try and cultivate?

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @05:51AM (#50178220)
I would not say people have given up. The problem is that this search for saving the planet and humanity all together is hard to understand for the common folk, much in the same way other banners that have been imposed on people in the past 2 decades.

Common people want to go to work and know that they have a working transport system, that they can walk in between a few streets and feel safe, that they can have enough money for a mortgage and to feed themselves and their families.

None of these things are exactly addressed by putting solar panels, and wind farms all around, especially when the cost of fuel keep rising. When the security of the grid on a once thought-of super-power like UK is constantly put in question.

The common people doesnt care much about these topics and explanations because they don’t have time for it, because they do still need to get on with life. It’s generally youth and retirees the ones gluing themselves to the pavement, have you noticed? whats in common in these two groups is they can both still afford to be idealists.

Then you turn on the TV and see how much damage is being done to the environment in other regions, and so, why do I need to suck it up in my jumper all winter then? Why am I the one using paper straws that break before I finish my drink?

This whole thing was always a tough sale, but it’s gotten even harder in the current political climate.
