The first thing anyone looking for venture capital needs to understand is that the primary objective of a VC company is to turn every dollar they invest into your idea into $10 over a 2 to 5 year time frame.

Once this fact is understood and understood well, then many of the emotional issues just sort of go away.

duhhh... If you got a brain you definitely don't want to be working for MS.
Re:The decline in computer science students (part 2) on Thursday June 26, 2008 @12:32AM (#228262)
Too many bosses like lumberg (from the movie Office Space) out there.

Can't get any referrals.

Besides Microsoft and the rest are scouring the streets of third world cities like bombay and Calcutta picking up throwaway kids and teaching them how to program.

Only one out of 50 makes it but when they kick in they only cost $15 an hour.

Who the heck needs those expensive kids with Computer Science degrees.

Re:RockYou raises a $35 million round on Monday June 09, 2008 @11:39AM (#212841)
my sentiments exactly jamongkad.

I think the key verbiage in the article is "and has done marketing campaigns for other companies like....."

If you write a great app then you wrote a great app and if you're lucky you might talk some funding source into paying or lending you $50k for it. If you hire a bunch of great marketing people and give them a crummy app they go out and get some funding source to fork out $35 million for some form of ownership right.

This fact of life has to be the greatest frustration there is in being an accomplished developer.
