Looks like the paper is from 2025?

I think the problem with these sorts of studies is that the industry is moving so fast, and by the time your paper gets peer reviewed and published it is no longer relevant.

In this paper, the participants are using mostly ChatGPT - well, there's a HUGE difference in free chatGPT, gpt 6, gpt 4o, gpt 3.5?

What might have been the case for say, GPT 4, is probably no longer the case with GPT 6.

My experience with Google's gemini right now makes this obvious, as I run out of Gemini 4 Astra in a conversation, and then it switches me to Gemini flash lite.

I don't think this is the case anymore if you're using the latest expensive models, i.e fable.
Re:How the Claude Code team does code review on Friday October 16, 2026 @06:00PM (#50125319)
most large software companies are already too large for anyone to have a complete mental model of.

The idea that someone at say, Google, will be able to fit even half of the system architecture in their heads is not realistic. It also hinges on being able to find and understand the right slice of the system in any situation.

But we have all sorts of guardrails to make that easy - i.e logs, traces, etc

TIL, thank you

Re:Jev Meets the Trolley Problem on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:00PM (#50111994)
Yeah that's fair. I'm being overreactive, and I do believe it has it's use cases. I was more referring to all the demos and takes I saw when it first came out that were hyping it up as if it was more impactful than Astra or Fable or whatever - which turned out to be a paid marketing campaign.
Re:Jev Meets the Trolley Problem on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:39PM (#50111861)
Ok, every time I hear about Jev I get annoyed.

The ability to have decision making models is not new! Look at qwen, gemma, etc, they can all do structured output, and they can do it locally and cheaper and/or faster than Jev!

What really pissed me off was that y'all got manipulated into thinking it was something revolutionary, while really it was a marketing stunt.

Go to doomers.ai and look at the case studies.

Re:Pi 1.0 on Thursday October 01, 2026 @06:35PM (#49927862)
the only thing novel about Jev is the incredible PR/Marketing push that they achieved
Yeah, I'm with you.

Nowadays any LLM and any harness you use will just do this for you.

But there are helper libraries like Instructor that have been around since like gpt3, which abstract away retries and stuff to make this super easy.

Ah yes - a company is such a failure that it recently raised 3 billion dollars at a 23 billion dollar valuation?

If it's successful, their boring machine will tunnel 10x faster and 10x cheaper than competitors, and it will be the one making new tunnels for all sorts of trains.

The craziest part about FSD is that people still think it doesn't work.

The fact that you can pay the average price for a car, and get a car that fully drives itself today, is mind boggling.

FSD is on the path of being incredibly successful. You really have to try it, if you haven't already.

Boring Company is also on the path to being successful, it's just not advertised much.

Solar roof - yes, this one I would mark as a failure.

Cybertruck - they're still selling, so not a failure. But not as great as originally promised.

Hyperloop - this could still come after boring company succeeds.

Nobody is saying he's god. But maybe, he understands engineering better than some commenters on HN, that's all.

I'm sure you also thought falcon was going to fail, Tesla would never work out, and Twitter would collapse after Elon bought it.

Wow that's awesome

thank you!
Re:California is chasing wealth that has feet on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:44PM (#49837790)
I think it's hitting 96k per homeless person a year now. But yes, it's the tax system's fault.
Re:California is chasing wealth that has feet on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:43PM (#49837779)
that has ZERO to do with the tax system... You can't be serious? Have you looked at the data at all? have you seen how much money is spent "combatting" homelessness in San Francisco?

any recommendation for tendon/joint pain? I'm in my early 30s, and try to lift regularly, but my joints/tendons seem to be the limiting factor when lifting, and not really muscle tiredness/soreness

thanks! Haha evidently, improvement is still needed in both the app and my Spanish

What levels are they actually at in your experience?
Re:Giving up on smart rings on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @02:51PM (#49717048)
smart rings aren't meant to last more than a couple years though - the rate of progress on these means that you're more likely going to be paying for a smart ring subscription than a physical object
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026) on Monday September 14, 2026 @09:34AM (#49696626)
Fabling.app

Got tired of trying to learn Spanish with Duolingo.

This uses the parts of AI that can actually help one learn efficiently, namely: - generate stories that are slightly beyond your understanding (i+1) - i.e mostly words you know or are learning, and a few new words - tracks your vocab and how often you lookup définitions - auto generates a vocab review deck (using fsfr Anki style)

Re:GPT‑Live‑1 in the API on Friday September 11, 2026 @08:40AM (#49657423)
Some of the models claim to be audio to audio, like one of the Gemini models. But I've tested and it does seem that you're right, it's not getting all the nuance at all
Re:GPT‑Live‑1 in the API on Friday September 11, 2026 @08:39AM (#49657412)
That's great- i recently went down the same path! I was using grok in my car but got frustrated it wouldn't keep track.

Built my own app, currently focused on having it generate stories for me at my level, and also doing FSRS flashcards, using words that i lookup.

What are you using for the voice AI?

Right now I'm using Gemini as it seemed the best value, but I think it could be improved.

Also, how's the learning for you been so far? I've only been at it a few weeks but this method seems to be superior than other things I've tried

Re:Defining AI Psychosis. Part 2: "Prolific AI Psychosis" on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:38PM (#49630244)
I think a lot of artists want to have psychosis because it would improve their art ahaha.

On a more serious note - real art is not validated by making money. If you want to be a full time artist, then you also have to run a business. But if all you care about is the art, then money has no relevance.

Business on the other hand, is all about making money.

Re:Defining AI Psychosis. Part 2: "Prolific AI Psychosis" on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:35PM (#49630193)
I don't think I elaborated on the type of person that I would consider having AI psychosis. It isn't just being enthusiastic. What I've seen (and it's not common, but I've seen it a few times), is this sort of arrogance around using AI, this "better than thou" attitude, and lack of consideration for things outside of AI, in their real life.
Re:Defining AI Psychosis. Part 2: "Prolific AI Psychosis" on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @12:45PM (#49629409)
I was talking to a friend recently, and i think i aligned with a similar definition.

I've seen people who talk nonstop about AI, and how it's changed everything, but then there's no quantifiable output that supports their claim.

On the other hand, I've had a friend start a business, and be able to create an app much much faster than what would have been possible in the past. He has real customers paying real money, which makes it easy to validate his claims.

Yes, but the baseline is the amount of fraud/crime that happens without crypto - which is extremely high.
