Please create something like this but for books
The date of the massage is 4th Sept but it says about the event on 15th Sept. Suspicious :)
Point 2. is interesting. Is it your personal experience or you have some sources to explore that topic?

Ask HN: Is there a platform for sharing progress of personal projects?

People build cool stuff (not only with code) and it would be great to have some kind of "social media" platform where you can share posts with updates on the process, be discovered, discover others. What obstacles you are facing? What solutions you found? That was always interesting for me.I can't think of any such example. Do you?

Ask HN: Can we blame Windows for CrowdStrike outage?

CrowdStrike update causes a Windows OS to crash and not even starting. It's definitely CrowdStrike's fault but I feel that good OS should prevent a 3rd party app to cause such damage. Can Windows take part of the blame for that outage? Would it happen on Linux?

Hello, my name is Piotr. I'm 26 and I just graduated with a master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Warsaw (MIMUW faculty). During university I worked as an intern/junior for 5 different companies ranging from small software house to a big-tech Meta/Facebook. I worked as a Production Engineer Intern at Meta and received a full-time offer (I rejected it).

I specialize in distributed systems, networking, operating systems, and web development. For my master's thesis, I implemented MinIO object storage into the complex system with multiple services and databases.

I have a strong understanding of algorithms and data structures. For 8 years I was involved in coding competitions as a participant, organizer and tutor.

Now I want to get my hands dirty as a full-time software engineer :)

Re:Ask HN: Where have you found community outside of work? on Wednesday May 31, 2023 @06:13AM (#36136594)
Church again.

Going to "academic catholic community" 6 years ago was one of the best decisions in my life honestly. We formed a group of closed friends there. Now we celebrate together birthdays, Christmas, etc. These are the people who help you when you are lost in the middle of nowhere (also metaphorically). Interestingly, not all of us are "believers" right now but it does not affect our bonds.

Of course, I met some crazy people in that community but with sufficiently large group you can find good guys and bad guys everywhere. You can find religious groups which don't force you to do anything. They may even value a philosophical questioning and discussion.

Ask HN: Messenger for Grandparents?

Hi,I want to somehow add my grandmother (88) to our family group chat on Facebook Messenger. She is living alone and needs contact with people. She is really smart for her age but has never used a computer.I'm looking for some wrapper for Messenger to make it dead simple for her to use (big font, no accidental clicks, no closing, always on).Do you have any recommendations?

Ask HN: What are your AI fears?

Recent progress in AI gives me anxious feelings which I can't address. What fears do you have?My feelings:- it's kind of a "cheat code" which makes a lot of mental work pointless. Why expanding your cognitive abilities if AI can do most of mental tasks faster and better?- human creativity isn't any special thing- giving more power to people eventually leads to a disaster (e.g. industrial...

Ask HN: What laptop should I buy in 2022?

Hello!I'm looking for a new laptop solely for coding purposes. I don't need any fancy features like fingerprint scanner or touchscreen. It has to be fast, reliable and serve me for a long time, repairability appreciated. I will use Linux only. I primarily do full stack web projects with Rust, TS and some low-level programming with C++.I will consider every option below 2000$I will be thankful...

Can give some examples of such activities?

Is there any economy/strategic game about delivering goods with cargo ships, containers, etc.? I would love to play it.

I wonder why almost the same website didn't go viral at such scale. Even though it was published earlier.

Hi! I'm pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science at the University of Warsaw. I'm looking for a summer internship opportunities, preferably outside Poland. My main interests are web development (mostly backend) and distributed systems in general. I have also experience in game development. When I program, the biggest pleasure give me optimizing stuff and clean code.

The correct answer is "we don't know"

That's right. And that is the moment when science has to give place to beliefs. Everyone can have different. Some poeple none at all. For a person who wants to find a bridge between science and religion, this model may be good.

"If we went to Mars and found there a computer, we wouldn't ever say that it popped up by accident. There had to be some creator of it. On the other hand, we have brains, which are much more complex than computers and we deny the existence of some creator."

I heard this anecdote during homily in church and honestly it perfectly describes how I think about God.
