I was wondering what you were talking about. What blue boxes? Then I saw the problem. The boxes showed up in Chromium but not Firefox.

Re:John Raines, 84, Who Evaded Capture in an FBI Break-In, Dies on Tuesday November 21, 2017 @05:36PM (#15752269)
Fair enough. You may not see the difference, but one is false and the other is true. My point is that many would disagree with your assessment if only they knew that there was a misquote to begin with. Many who want to put forth a false narrative use these kind of disinformation tactics. If only the mainstream media did not have to resort to such slimy tactics. Wikileaks has a far better record of journalistic integrity. You can rely on a quote as being true at least. How many false stories have been printed by Wikileaks as opposed to the Atlantic? How many retractions?
Re:John Raines, 84, Who Evaded Capture in an FBI Break-In, Dies on Tuesday November 21, 2017 @03:50PM (#15751409)
This may seem pedantic, but I think your quote of the misquote is wrong. The media have been putting the period / 'full stop' within the quotation marks (not just outside which you have above) which Caitlin Johnstone rightfully calls out as journalistic malpractice. That very few people know the actual quote is testament to the mainstream media's ability to sell a false narrative.

Edit: Why the downvotes?

Re:John Raines, 84, Who Evaded Capture in an FBI Break-In, Dies on Tuesday November 21, 2017 @01:54PM (#15750495)
Actually that quote is incorrect. It has been widely misquoted by the main stream media for their own propagandistic reasons.

Re:Ask HN: What is your password management solution? on Saturday July 15, 2017 @11:31AM (#14777142)
I use Universal Password Manager (UPM). It runs everywhere, syncs to dropbox (or wherever), pretty fast start time even though it's java. Github link: https://github.com/adrian/upm-swing
Re:Blockchains are the new Linux, not the new Internet on Sunday May 28, 2017 @08:26PM (#14436737)
Yes, but block chains are also integral to proof-of-stake or general byzantine fault-tolerant consensus algorithms. Do you mind me asking: Do you have a lot invested in Bitcoin?
Re:Blockchains are the new Linux, not the new Internet on Sunday May 28, 2017 @08:19PM (#14436716)
Trust isn't a binary relationship. Computer security is hard. I trust people to try their best to not get hacked or not to get kidnapped and tortured, but alas it sometimes happens. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned that the only reason to use a block chain is to achieve byzantine fault tolerance. Casper is trying to solve much the same thing that has already been solved by Tendermint but with different trade-offs (CAP theorem trade-offs).

Joe Gregorio has a great video presentation that answers some of the questions I see posted here:

The (mostly) lisp code from the first edition can be found here: https://webdocs.cs.ualberta.ca/~sutton/book/code/code.html
Wonderful! I took his machine learning coarse at the University of Alberta and we used the first edition in his class - though he didn't make it mandatory to buy his book. In any case, it was well worth the asking price. The math isn't too hard and progresses gently enough. I think the lisp code he wrote for the first edition is online somewhere. I'll have to check his web presence.

Re:What is a coder's worst nightmare? (2014) on Saturday November 21, 2015 @10:37PM (#10608978)
This reminds me of the buggy pic-C compiler standard library I was using. Some functions calls with particular parameters (maybe the printf family) would halt program for no apparent reason.
I think a lot of projects use sqlite for client side persistence. I know mega (https://mega.co.nz/) did.

I have friends who are twins. They too are opposite handed. They say it has something to do with sharing the womb (arms touching / pushed together?).
I've been using UPM (http://upm.sourceforge.net/) for quite a few years. It's portable and full of great features.
