the doc death by china covers some of these issues... not free trade by a long shot, more like an ongoing trade war
or Columbia the hippos like it there
I've observed strong bonds are formed during hardship, so enduring the teenage years/military service/some other hardship with others will result in a deeper friendship, but people are moving around so much that even if you have such bonds the other person will likely move to another city.
Reminds me of the 4ds: Disrupt, Degrade, Deny, Destroy
You have coins on both block chains now
Nearly all political persuasion is framed as a moral argument and dissenters are publicly shamed. Eg. You are a bad person if you drive a SUV. This is not just a property of the left

If web assembly can render angrybots i dont see why it cant render the nyt...and i think it would be hard to adblock such a setup.
Try high contrast chrome extension choose increased contrast
One ingredient is missing, some innovation to secure the bike against theft, since $1000 electric is a target.
In a conversation about the death of the west, you express shock that there remains some vestige of Christian morality, and without a hint of irony.
The narrative in this country is people who dont agree with the liberal establishment are mentally ill in the form of racism, sexism, etc. This is the level of political discourse we put up with.
Beergardens were common until WWII, at which point they were associated with Germanism. Most parks I see get very little use, one empty baseball field after another, it wouldn't take much to liven them up.
I think whats missing is greenspace with a commercial element. If you attach a beergarden or cafe to a greenspace people will spend much more time there
This is about the NSA, not the CIA, but still a nice link.
"As the most recent National Security Advisor of the United States, I take my daily orders from Dr. Kissinger, filtered down through General Brent Scowcroft and Sandy Berger, who is also here. We have a chain of command in the National Security Council that exists today."

This might be true but the option for Americans is the American city or the American suburb. A lot of bloggers who rail against the suburbs juxtapose it against some beautiful European city.
I think there's a handful of American cities with good urbanism, where as Europe has presumably thousands.
60 mins did an episode on face blindness, and apparently the psychologist Oliver Sacks couldn't even recognize himself in the mirror.
I think it's more the case that American cities are just not that great especially compared to European cities. The proposition for city life in the US is not that compelling unless you are taking about very few cities. So the average person moves to the suburbs and uses a car.
Of course our big cities are not great due to the automobile, but the average person can't do anything about that.
Political agitators exploit a situation with buzzwords to create headlines, meanwhile real students go to class.
According to a recent Frontline, maybe we are moving on:
"A searing, two-hour investigation places America’s heroin crisis in a fresh and provocative light -- telling the stories of individual addicts, but also illuminating the epidemic's years-in-the-making social context, deeply examining shifts in U.S. drug policy, and exploring what happens when addiction is treated like a public health issue, not a crime."

If you live in the city, the compelling use is that you never have to park. And on long enough timeline, if a enough people were doing this, much of the parking footprint of the city could be liberated.
"The right to access every building in the city by private motorcar, in an age when everyone owns such a vehicle, is actually the right to destroy the city." -Lewis Mumford
Imagine there's a vending machine, and a group of young people learn that if you it hit in a certain way, a soda pops out... so they stand around hitting that vending machine...popping out sodas...
'Offendedness' is that way you punch that machine.
Isn't this standard operating procedure these days? Big companies have the leverage to negotiate their tax situation, Walmart and NFL teams come to mind.
The terms right-wing and left-wing are as meaningless as the term fascism.
I'm using a spreadsheet to organize the job listings before I apply. Some columns include Job, Title, Industry, Salary, Notes, Distance from my house... If a job search portal was combined with a 'job application organizer' that would be a nice product.
