Re:Bernie Sanders Urges Cuomo to Raise CUNY Professors’ Pay on Tuesday December 15, 2015 @09:41PM (#10742011)
I know this wasn't what you are saying, but it's worth pointing out that higher education funding and professor's pay are two very different things.

In a sense, facebook does pay us: it let's us use its platform for free.

In exchange we give facebook our data and usage patterns and the right to put targeted ads in our feed.

Re:Ask HN: Any Go players here? (Not the language) on Tuesday August 04, 2015 @02:36PM (#10005316)
I learned go (igo) a number of years ago while living in Japan, and when I returned to the US had trouble finding people to play with.

Ever since online-go.com started I have been getting back into it. I love being able to play asynchronously.

My username on that site is "rob.doherty.127" I'm happy to play anyone beginner to advanced (I am an intermediate level player).

There is a historical precedent for corporation-backed security forces in the US.

Ask HN: Freelancers in the US: What do you do for health insurance?

Currently getting health insurance for my wife and me through my employer and plan to transition into freelance/consulting. I'll have to start paying for insurance and was curious what other freelancers on HN are using, what monthly costs are like, etc.I am especially curious what freelancers in the NYC area are doing. Thanks!

His blog is always a good read to boot.

Re:Ask HN: Algorithms for text fingerprinting? on Monday June 15, 2015 @07:08AM (#9718616)
Could you describe in a little more detail what you mean by this sentence:

> "... use HyperLogLogs to encode these MinHash structs gaining a great deal of speed with a marginal error rate, all while allowing for arbitrary N-levels of intersection"

Thanks

Re:Ask HN: Why is there not a Go specific IDE? on Tuesday June 02, 2015 @11:15AM (#9646361)
There's a plugin for intellij, but I suspect most folks just use a text editor.
