Re:GitHub Pages now runs Jekyll 2.2.0 on Wednesday July 30, 2014 @01:51PM (#8109843)
It has always been like that. A file full of static files (no dashes at the top) is still a valid Jekyll site.

For security reasons, we have no choice. It's specifically designed not to allow execution of arbitrary Ruby code. GitHub wouldn't run Pages if Jekyll didn't have this guarantee.

Show HN: your very own horse_ebooks generator

https://github.com/parkr/ebooks

As Buster Benson (of Twitter) mentioned on his blog (http://wayoftheduck.com/diy-horse-ebooks), @horse_ebooks was killed off yesterday. In response, he created a simple Ruby script that uses Markov Chains to generate @buster_ebooks, a version of @horse_ebooks made from his Tweet archive (https://gist.github.com/busterbenson/6695350). A script is cool, but what if you could have a gem? SAY NO MORE!

"Cutting or regulating the paychecks of top executives won’t avert future economic crises and recessions because the source of corporate risk taking and fraud typically emerges from non-executive employees, according to a leading financial law expert at Cornell University."

Octopress will be updated to use Jekyll 1.0.

Nothing exactly like what you're describing, but this might help you get started: https://github.com/mojombo/jekyll/pull/585

Please do! And let us know if you have any questions. We're reachable on Twitter and we have an IRC channel I hang out in.

Fixed the link, good catch. Thanks!

Hey avolcano! Tom is going to try to push it out soon, but I can't say whether it'll be this week or maybe the end of the month!

If I update just one post, can't we just recompile that? If a layout is changed, then all non-static files would be regenerated. There's a way to be more specific.

Haha, nice shameless self-promotion. It's chill.

Jekyll's meant to be a static blog generator, not a general static site generator.

Check out Octopress. It might be right up your alley (and solve your problems).

Hm, I didn't realize it was so inexpensive. I've only ever used S3 as a CDN for a huge site with lots of images, so it was an expensive endeavor.
