Definitely had the TS-1000 growing up in 80s. I remember looking at the window display of some electronics store where all these watches and Nintendo Game & Watch games where all lined up.
I was in Japan a few years back and I bought two F-91Ws, they look so small compared to today's watches. Too bad they're so flimsy, I wore one for a week but must have bumped it against something and broke the glass (at least it's glass). The other one is still in the original packaging, I'll probably leave it there. Nowadays I wear my G-SHOCK as a daily driver.
From another comment here somewhere I understand that it is the content provider who is paying the tax, not the receiver.
> Removing international students will also have big flow on negative effects for the rest of the economy.
It will. Because guess what, these students are working jobs (mostly in hospitality) no one else wants to work. Businesses no longer able to find staff.
I agree. The solution isn't cutting overseas students. The solution is to build more houses. To build more houses get more construction workers (who can coincidentally also build houses for themselves).
He told 'm to move to .si domains.

That's what I was thinking as well. Wouldn't the majority of the bugs not also have existed in Postgres 18? The version that everyone is using atm...
There is a similar thing with AI detecting vulnerabilities. It's not that the vulnerability isn't real, but just that in most cases for these vulnerabilities to exist there also needs to be a very specific set of circumstances as well making the likelihood of the vulnerability to exist in the wild quite low.
Same here. I must have done a "Don't recommend channel" on enough crap over the years that the algorithm must have learned not to show this stuff to me.
Where is your own hardware located? A data center? Or maybe your place of residence? What if that location is compromised? Does that mean that physical ownership of the hardware is also not self hosted?
This reminds me of the early 1980s when synthesizer music became popular. People back then were saying things along the lines of "anyone can make music now, you just press a button and you have a no. 1 hit". But the reality is that, just having a synthesizer doesn't make you musician but a synthesizer in the hands of a musician can make a big difference.
Long time Linode user here. I have been running the same $5 VM for over a decade now with them, maybe even 15 years, would have to check... I used to host Wordpress websites on it but now it only runs my own RSS reader (running background jobs to ingest the feeds).
Can I ask what such a prompt looks like? Is it more along the lines of "implement all the features of Photoshop" or a detailed list of all the features that should be implemented?
Looking through his work it seems that he has build a whole .net browser based ecosystem [1]. Pretty impressive its own right. However, for his showcase projects I was wondering how he'd prompt to guide these recreations, i.e. what is used as the input, I can't image that he'd describe every tiny detail...

Anyone can make a website and publish it but for some reason when it comes to apps there needs to be a store with a review process. Aren't apps, in a way, not just specialised browsers (not talking about webview apps here) that run in a sandbox? Why the need for all this "reviewing", does it make apps safer or better quality? Is it a device ecosystem permission / security problem? I.e. why do apps need stores and websites don't?
> In the month of July 2020, we developed a prototype of TigerBeetle in Node as a performance sketch to measure the basic components of the design (batching, TCP protocol, cryptographic checksums everywhere, fsync journalling, in-memory business logic and hash table operations).

my work offers win or mac only.
When I started using a Mac many years ago, I also could not believe how terrible Finder is. This is software from the "design" company.
One of the biggest pitfalls I ran into at the time (and remember from the top of my head) was that when you copy a folder, and a folder with the same name already exists at the destination, it will quietly replace it, rather than giving me a dialog asking if I want to Replace or Merge.
Oh, that I can't switch on/off show hidden files, I have to run some command line command to do that...

Who uploads their bank statements into some random website?
Syndicate on MS-DOS is the only game I know of to look good with 16 colors on VGA 640x480. The other one would be Gods by Bitmap Brothers also 16 colors but on 320x200 resolution. Great examples of limitations driving amazing outcomes.
A few decades ago I was diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) and for about the last 15 years I have been tracking my blood pressure and weight. Every morning when I wake up, I weigh myself and take my blood pressure. I write the results in a CSV file that sits on my desktop (it gets backed up). I do this religiously, every single day. I have tried other, more "modern", solutions but somehow they don't stick or are too cumbersome to use. Even tried to build my own app but lost motivation at some point.
> I would take what C-level execs say with a grain of salt.
100% agree.
> Remember these folks hire people with plenty of system design experience.
Not my overall experience 30 years in the industry.
> They likely also have the money for hardware resources.
You'll always be asked to do more with less, at least, that's my own experience.
Not sure either why they are providing an API to detect either and what you say make sense.
However, if my understanding is correct, the reason for the watermark / detections is that its not directly aimed at end-users, but to be able from them to detect if text was produced by one of their models so they don't use it as input in training data. So, yeah, in that context, not sure why they are announcing this with an ability for anyone to detect if it was produced by one of their models. Also, they are happy to ingest text produced by models they don't own? Maybe someone with more information can elaborate?
Solitiny :)
> NOTE: For DosBox users, DosBox doesn’t seem to support AT&T 6300 but the other modes work fine.
I'm pretty sure DOSBox supports the Olivetti M24 graphics mode.
What's even worse is that, when you do this on the description of a story or task, everytime it comes up with a slightly different format of how it's going to layout the "enhanced" description.
It's more like two collisions rather than two parties.
Anyone working in an organisation where teams are trying to map business logic errors into HTTP status codes?
Wasn't Fieldings original dissertation meant as a formalisation of the web? I.e. it had nothing to do with APIs until later, when that became popular in the mid 2000s?
The amount of nonsense conversations / meetings I have been in over the years around designing "RESTful" APIs, endless discussions, I can no longer keep count. Because, unless you're working on an academic research project, everything in REST becomes a compromise.
At this point I am starting believe that REST has done more harm than good for the industry.
I scanned through it and settled on Design H as well, birds and buildings. One thing I started to notice while looking over the design that I had a strong preference for the number to be in the corners. The last two one are "portrait" which feels weird to me but might be more appealing to a younger generation.
I have switched to vocalised morse code. My colleagues love me.
> I sort of lament the use of lines under headings, as they look visually better for human readers of Markdown
Maybe I am spoiled but I rarely read markdown directly. As a user of vscode I do ctrl + shift + v on a markdown file and read the rendered version.
