Article didn't really explain where this new, good software is :D
Re:Tell HN: OpenAI keeps re-enabling the 'allow training' setting on Thursday September 10, 2026 @10:02AM (#49643881)
Oh no… OpenAI, the company who encourages and instructs Apple employees on how to get them data on apple products when they accept an offer?
Re:Omarchy: Any User Process Can Escalate to Root on Sunday August 30, 2026 @01:34PM (#49500839)
I got here because it was the first time I saw a tiling window manager on an Omarchy video. I was on windows my entire life, so when i saw it and how bad windows got, I decided to give it a try. A few months since I de-omarchyfied the system and went straight back to arch. And now still on it.

I should have gone with something like cachyos as games are important to me, but I think at the time hyperland wasn't an option (i don't remember). I know it is now.

How can they? They are busy designing agentic loops. They ship 8x more lines of code!!!

Re:Why are my headphones buzzing whenever I run my game? on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @11:35AM (#46136549)
Wow, that's exactly what I have, a MODI 2. Time for a change I guess
Re:Why are my headphones buzzing whenever I run my game? on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @11:26AM (#46136387)
Entities that can't be picked, don't write to the texture, entities that can be picked, write to the texture their id. Whatever is closer to the camera will be the id that stays there (same as a color pixel, but instead of the object color you can think object id). So you are limited at one ID per pixel, but for me that works.
Re:Why are my headphones buzzing whenever I run my game? on Wednesday December 03, 2025 @11:05AM (#46136094)
Well, it's significantly easier to implement than a octree. Game is actually 3D under the hood, projected at a careful angle to look isometric 2D.

The reason the game is 3D has to do with partially visible things being way easier than with isometric textures layered in the right order.

Also, now that i just grab a pixel back from the GPU, it's no overhead at all (to construct or get the data for it).

Re:Devin-like startup for replacing managers on Saturday June 28, 2025 @11:10AM (#44405233)
Let’s be honest, LLMs aren’t yet ready to replace engineers. However it’s prime time to replace your average manager with one

Re:A history of Hup, the jump sound of shooting games on Sunday April 03, 2022 @06:20AM (#30895849)
I played lots of quake2-3 but that wasn't the golden age. Now you have even better selection for competitive gaming, like CS Go, valorant with their 128 ticks/s servers.
Re:Prime Video Uses WebAssembly on Friday January 28, 2022 @01:50PM (#30118770)
I'd actually love to do a more in-depth presentation of the internals and how stuff works together. Who knows, maybe in a future post :)

If you have any specific question, I could try to answer it here.

Re:Prime Video Uses WebAssembly on Friday January 28, 2022 @05:53AM (#30113060)
You can easily tag imgui update/render times in profiling sessions. Then they are isolated from the rest of the work that's happening.
Re:Prime Video Uses WebAssembly on Friday January 28, 2022 @05:21AM (#30112845)
Emscriptem is targeted at browsers and for that rust does have the target wasm32-unknown-emscripten

However, when targeting wasm outside browsers wasm32-wasi is usually a better option.

Re:Prime Video Uses WebAssembly on Friday January 28, 2022 @05:10AM (#30112765)
It's actually Web assembly micro runtime (still from bytecode alliance but it's a vm that also supports interpreted mode)
There are some videogames I play that only work on Windows :/

Re:Bevy: A game engine built in Rust on Sunday February 14, 2021 @10:56AM (#26133370)
It's not surprising that a project that's really early in development chooses to keep up with the latest rust as a min. reqirement.

Once it gets to a 1.0, that adoption of new features may slow down.

Re:Bevy: A game engine built in Rust on Sunday February 14, 2021 @10:44AM (#26133276)
To make an engine it's ok just to gather a bunch of programmers.

To make a game (even a tiny one) you need artists, sound designer, designers and so on and that's what makes it significantly harder

We need that but foe hn comments
A similar stupid law was proposed by a Romanian minister some years ago but with the goal of stopping you calling people (basically ministers) idiots on website comments.

They eventually realized it's not enforceable and it just created some fuss.

The reason that died as it started is because there's no way how such a thing ever work or be enforced.

Does it not matter where I host my site?

What can Poland do about my website hosted in UK (or any other country)?

At worst this just destroys any hosting services that operate in that country.

But then what would be the fun :D
Re:Epic acquires RAD Game Tools on Friday January 08, 2021 @05:56AM (#25683447)
:D It's heading towards what you predict at the speed we're heading to be in the year of linux on desktop.

PS4/XB1 have been enormously more powerful than PS3/Xb360 and yet almost all games on those consoles that play a video do it using Bink even if both consoles have that AMD hardware you mention.

The current generation PS5, etc is way more powerful than PS4, and yet bink still seems to still dominate in the limited titles that we can see.
