i’ve been a product designer building real, shipped software for 13+ years
currently doing design, front-end, & product managing at www.portaltobitcoin.com
i've been a startup founder, built & led design teams, and worn hats across marketing, ops, etc.
let's talk!
I get that people use the word art as "difficult", "obscure" or "intangible" but...
Art is about self-expression, evoking emotions, and open interpretation. Design is about problem-solving, functionality, and clear communication.
Clearly DataViz is Design.
* I’ve been working on the UI/UX of RAFA. Any feedback would be welcome.
As an adult it's hard, you need a hobby/interest that promotes socializing or has a community around it.
One of my biggest hobbies is being a DJ, I get booked regularly locally and nationally, and that's allowed me to meet and make a lot of new lasting friendships in the past years.
I've seen people make strong bonds over crossfit, martial arts, religious groups, etc.

I’m a practical Product Designer with 8+ years of experience in a broad range of situations. I’ve been a startup cofounder, a design team lead, & an individual contributor.Current interests are Bitcoin, Arts, Social Experiences, Education and Localism
It has many great insights about what we'd call product or design decisions, but it feels like a philosophy book, and you'll also learn stuff that applies to daily life.
Withdraw to cold storage, dump everything except bitcoin, and of course, do your own research.
Oh, no... The art of djing is playing the right track at the right time, if you drop a track that you don't really know, even if based on previous processing of it, you're no different than an recommendation engine...
Long live the real djs that really know their library, and play tracks consciously depending on context.
Two of my hypotheses are:
(1) some designers are working on huge screens themselves, and don't test enough in usual resolutions
(2) it's easier to achieve good visual composition by doing a lot of whitespace (to the expense of hiding things below fold or in triggerable containers)
I've had magnificent full-dose experiences, that helped me improve enormously, and microdosing has been really beneficial for my anxiety, mood, productivity and general well being.
I feel that's imperative for us to study the effects of this substances more, and a controlled set-&-setting in treatment centers are a good and safe idea to bring this to the mainstream.
As a designer, my right hand is over the mouse a lot of the time. I have a chronic pain on my right wirst, although, I not certain of the cause.
Anyone her has experience with this?
Of course you can make it really special, but I assume anything that requires extra developer hours will be prioritized against other requirements.

That being said, this '4 decades dated to 1 decade dated' is not an useful way to criticize a design. Great design is atemporal.
You could try to mention specific things do you don't like about it. Or at the very least, emotions it causes in you.
Similar goal.
A plea: Please avoid adding obstacles to the users. Things are getting harder on mobile, instead of better, in the last couple of years. Like we reached peak usability and then forgot it was one of the most important goals.
Shiny UI elements are only good if they don’t mess up the core goal of your project.
// end of rant (sorry)

We built this because Fitness Apps are failing us, we can’t stick to our goals. We tried tracking apps like Fitbit and Nike. We tried gamification apps like Habitica and Fitocracy. But we keep failing. Is it us? Or these apps aren’t effective enough?
Maybe it’s both, but here’s a theory:
Gamification is powerful if done right, and it’s not being done right today. Gamification and Verification should go together. Games are fun because you can win or lose, in a verifiable way.
This is why we created RocketJourney. RocketJourney offers gameful challenges, with verification.

Our main challenge is the Survival Challenge:
1. The goal is to exercise at least 3 days per week to increase your streak. 2. To verify 1 day of exercise, track one of these: Gym attendance, 150-calorie workout, 30 active minutes or 10k steps. 3. You have to get your 3 days of exercise before Sunday night. If not, you’ll lose your streak. 4. Unless you have enough cheat days. 1 cheat day pays 1 missing day.
* Week after week, of those who started the same week as you, you’ll see how many keep their streak alive.

About our tech:
We’re using Elixir in the back, some Erlang for a critical service which queries multiple databases for a huge gym chain, Estimote Beacons to verify attendance to gyms, Swift for iOS, Java (and trying out some Kotlin) for Android.
For a logo to be effective, it has to communicate an intent/personality/style according to what the brand is about. And the probabilty that an app achieves that is based on pure luck.
I get that generic logos may look "nice", but a logo is not about that.
Congratulations to the creator(s).
