In a normal world, this would be treason by an illegal immigrant to the US. In today's world it's a blip in news. Sad state of affairs :(

Europe will absolutely build alternatives. They'll bicker for some time, but in the end, they build. To Americans it looks like they don't but they do. Quality of life, life expectancy, and many factors have outpaced US in the last few years. The tech industry in the US is still important, but the importance will start waning soon.

I think it's too little too late, people have started moving on https://www.haproxy.com/blog/state-of-ssl-stacks

The train line in California was literally the only reason Musk announced Hyperloop - to spoil it.

Huh what :) And that VM/microVM is running on top of...Windows? :)
Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @06:17AM (#50178486)
People love hating on PHP. But Go has CVEs like every week, and people are getting tired of updating it. I don't think there is a fundamental "PHP bad" argument beyond just "hating on it". While Go/Node have grown much more than PHP, PHP is definitely alive.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:50PM (#50171713)
I'll get downvoted by the Musk fans, but the NY-DC Hyperloop corridor failed because Hyperloop doesn't work, is non existent, and that corridor is already served by the only profitable train line in the US, the Amtrak DC -> Boston train. It made no financial sense to do this. Bureaucracy is just an excuse for yet another Musk pipe dream to pump stock.
Re:Things to know if you get cancer in 2026 on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @06:10PM (#50096146)
This.

The specific term is called "NCI Designated Cancer Center". If you can go there, do it.

Re:Aweb – Communication for AI Agents on Thursday October 01, 2026 @09:10PM (#49928857)
I like it. Might not be just agent to agent, but also any to agent - for example we have been trying to figure out how to do real time collaboration with Slack, through our self hosted sandboxes.
Re:Cloudflare K2: serverless event streams on Thursday October 01, 2026 @01:22PM (#49924480)
They've always been this fast. The trick is that they release beta products a lot. Kind of classic "lean" (does anyone remember that?)

My bigger concern would be their increasing grip on a lot of the market, and eventually becoming a monopoly (or part of the big tech "duopoly")

I don't get it. Half the tokens, but triple the cost on Open Router? So I pay more? Great idea otherwise...
Remember he's "post-economic", he doesn't really care.
These people love the stable regulatory environment of the US government, but despise paying their fair share into it. You could say they are not serious, but unfortunately they are.
Re:Everyone is building LLM routers, we deprecated ours on Friday July 31, 2026 @03:36PM (#49127650)
Routing belongs on the client side
Re:Claude Opus 5 on Friday July 24, 2026 @04:16PM (#49041087)
I am not convinced this will end up being a domain of the ‘routers’ vs the clients, as in harnesses themselves. Thoughts?
Re:How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing on Tuesday July 14, 2026 @11:13PM (#48915806)
Now do "shape"
Re:Precursor on Monday July 13, 2026 @02:28PM (#48896740)
Akamai, Fastly, HAProxy, F5, many others? Talking about bots specifically, not about "workers" etc.
I live around at around a 150ft elevation above the ocean, but technically within < 1 mile away from it. Despite zero risk of flodding, half of the bigger insurers in my area have exited the market, and we are now having to insure with higher risk insurers like Kingston, who's ratings are yet to be tested during a real emergency.

My car insurance is above $4k/yr for two family cars, rising annually despite no accidents.

Meanwhile, "normal" countries are solving these problems in reasonable ways. Back home in Central Europe, you get state mandated car insurance at pre-negotiated rates that are based on the car, not the driver.

US insurance is a scam.

Re:AI 2040: Plan A on Saturday July 11, 2026 @09:17AM (#48871826)
The whole thing is unreadable, and laughable, just like AI2027 previously. It's really really hard to read someone suggesting that in the United States we will soon have a universal basic income of $1m / year for all people in the country, when you just look at the state of current politics...

I'd rather read something a little bit more realistic.

For one, Germany is a densely populated country smaller than the state of California. I think we can stop there?

There is really almost no comparison to the US in terms of rural areas anywhere in Europe.

Show HN: TraceAIO – open-source LLM visibility tracker

https://traceaio.org

I built TraceAIO, an open-source tool that prompts LLMs on your behalf and tells you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini mention your brand — and which competitors and sources show up instead.Yeah, this category smells a bit like a grift, same as early SEO. And I think over time it will become just SEO again, and become about good content. The tool just helps you monitor over time.It...

Re:Midjourney Medical on Thursday June 18, 2026 @07:26AM (#48583755)
Almost nobody here is a doctor, and it shows...over diagnosis, over treatment, those are all terms that doctors learn about in medical school.

Image segmentation is a real problem, and achieving better precision is a good goal. The "golden" standard these days is likely https://github.com/wasserth/totalsegmentator, if someone can make it even more accurate, that would be very very good. But yet again, there are infinite amounts of variations in human bodies, which means even the best models focus only on segmenting known organs, and leave anything unknown alone.

Re:Three of our worst VC stories on Friday June 05, 2026 @08:46PM (#48420234)
There was once a CEO who built a great company, then decided to fire 20 % of the company and call those people publicly "measurers", so they are basically tainted in the marketplace. Oh wait...that was eastdakota
