so right now, we are currently bootstrapping our startup and we'd like to raise a seed around to help us focus soley on the startup.Raising money is a pain in the ass, that I get. Some friends have been asking how they can help us raise that seed round. While I would love their help with connecting me to people that are willing to seed us, is it right for us to give our friends equity (small...
thanks guys! This is pretty much the way I was feeling about it.

I'm about to open my app to a group of selected persons to take part in private alpha/beta testing, Should I require them to sign a NDA to particpate?
these are kinda pricey for what they are. fab.com has awesome prints likes these on sale every now and then for half the price and now free shipping. just saying.
seriously. id call up a friend or family member to donate $28 and then just pay them back later or something.
I wasnt really paying attention to the outage, but if it was indeed a routing issue, then you shouldnt have been able to reach any godaddy ip address. ICMP/traceroutes would have failed and showed the error.

Whether you are trying to find technical co-founder or graphics design co-founder, is it still a major challenge today? I've been through all this 2 years ago, but things have changed over that time. Have any of the "find a cofounder" websites been useful to anyone or do they all suck and dont really solve the problem? Have meetups been helpful? Do you have a list of criteria that you look for...
thanks for the all the input! ill share my idea once i have refined it more. but the key things i want to focus are:
- give a chance for everyone to network with each other
- put people in situations where teamwork is needed
- put focus on creativity and make things fun. FUN is the focus here.
- learning is still the goal here but not in a stressful/lack of sleep environment.
what would you like to see in a 'post engagement' system? do you want to be able to see a list of everyone that attended so you can follow them on facebook or twitter? have a place that teams and post updates on the projects that they worked on? curious as to your thoughts on how the 'post event' support system could be better.

im currently throwing around an idea for a 'startup weekend' type of event.
i've done several startup weekend events and I do have some gripes about it. while you do learn alot in those 48 hours of hacking/building a business model, it is very very stressful but rewarding. but i dont think it has to be that way all the time.
was wondering if anyone has any complaints about these type of events...

is it even possible to roll out your own private heroku-like hosting platform? with all these AWS problems, people that rely on Heroku have little choice but to run their own Rails server if they dont want to use Heroku.
at the end of the day, if you have a service that other people/businesses/clients rely on, that they need 24/7 up time, then you really need to have a plan B that is not on heroku or aws. a REAL disaster recovery plan needs to be thought out and implemented. if you dont want your users to see the "there is a problem with this app" on heroku, then its your job to figure out that plan B is. If you cant afford it a plan B, then well, tough shits. as someone that has worked in the hosting business for years on the operations side, its also the responsibility of the client to plan that scenario where your primary host is not reachable (regardless if its an application level issue, network or power outage). the hosting company can only build so many N+1 backups (network/power/etc) as they can afford/physically fit. you can buy all the load balancing you want, redundant web servers and database servers. if you arent hosting in a secondary place and your primary host fails, all those redundant servers you are paying for arent going to mean a damn thing.
what did GM hope it would accomplish by advertising on facebook? Unless they are offering a discount coupon for 50% off their next GM car, facebook users wouldnt care. did they hope facebook users would be more inclined to buy GM vs a foreign car? if that is the case...i have bridge i would like to sell you.
after months of baking with my girlfriend, we decided to launch our first startup together: SoYummy.
I got the inspiration when she first got a subscription to Birchbox and i thought, there must be 'bakery/sweets' version of Birchbox. After some research, i discovered that there really isn't anything like this. This wont make me a million dollars overnight, but we wanted to give this a shot and really try to make it work. Let me know if you got any questions! would love some feedback!

ugh. how about you put some HTTPS on your credit card donation page?
Not sure man. You could be right. They could be building the foundation to build next gen apps that better mesh all the product in the EMC product portfolio. Only time will tell.
EMC could have just hired them as consultants to teach them the ways of being 'more agile' with their product set. hard to find a business reason behind this other than buying them for their non tangible 'processes".
isnt heroku based on EC2? they should be able offer some type of redundant package for customers willing to pay for it. i mean, lets be serious, people WILL pay for it, assuming it works.
