Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:43PM (#50187352)
I’m British. There are a fair few of my fellow citizens in prison for tweets that would disagree
Re:Ofcom Concedes Defeat in the 4chan Case on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:29PM (#50172206)
Your quote references censorship specifically and while there are some creaks in the first amendment here and there, it is nothing compared to the censorship machine running in the UK and Europe.
Realism would involve using the correct pronouns. There has been a political/cultural impetus towards ignoring gender differences full stop. Men of course have a higher propensity towards violence, it is society’s/ parent’s role to ensure that is channeled for good, unfortunately, as in this case, a higher prevalence of mental illness makes this even more difficult

> Website analytics firm Similarweb estimates that both 4chan and 4channel are still within the 1,000 most popular websites in the world.

Would never have guessed.

Did the same to me. Refused to give it, luckily I only used it for YouTube, lost the 100 odd channels I subscribed to and my playlists and that was about it. Use an RSS reader now to track my favourite channels
Thanks but I've tried beta blockers and a couple of SSRIs and diazepam is the only thing that touches my anxiety. When I walk in public the vigilance to perceived threat is is what I would expect walking through 1980s Beirut, it's a primitive fear response that manifests through symptoms that are more mental than physical in nature - heart rate and sweating in particular are issues but seem to me to be at the bottom of the chain.
Agreed, I have pretty bad social anxiety with hypervigilance. Taking on average 3 5mg (occasionally a 10mg dose) tablets a week when needed for presentations or meetings with more weight allows me to keep my job.

Even such a small dose I feel restores a sense of normality that I haven't experienced in over 10 years without them, I'm able to rationalise what I want to say, conversation flows, I feel in control. With all that said, I've been doing this for a while and have never come close to addiction and no noticeable side effects. I continue to work on the underlying causes but without them I would be much worse off.

I watched the first 15 minutes of this and what shocked me is how unrevealing it was. If someone recorded me over the course of weeks or months, I would almost certainly say something that would land me in hot water in some sense. This piece of 'investigative journalism' I actually found embarrassing, all this editing to big it up as some major conspiracy when to me, in that 15 mins at least, was at worst run of the mill lobbying. Considering how unsavoury a character Corbyn was, I actually found the subjects incredibly restrained, perhaps part of the JD however.
Always a good barometer of the merits of an idea
Re:John von Neumann thought he had the answers on Saturday March 12, 2022 @08:19AM (#30651137)
This is silly. Not all 267k will be aware of their IQ being in the top 1/30k and fewer again will have any interest in joining.
Re:Leidenfrost Effect on Wednesday June 23, 2021 @05:37PM (#27610764)
I assume this relates to the viral video on Reddit with the guy waving his hand across a stream of molten lava
I would add routines to that list. Right now they are just isolated workouts that don’t belong to a wider programme
It’s not so much memory management, it’s battery that is a significant benefactor when using safari in my experience; of course only relevant using MacBook on the go. I do find chrome more sluggish on my 2015 5k iMac as well
Re:EU vaccine rollout severely lags behind on Monday March 22, 2021 @06:04PM (#26547918)
You keep repeating the same claim in this thread, a claim that runs counter to citations you are provided with and here you are, yet to provide any reliable sources of your own
Re:2020 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Letter [pdf] on Saturday February 27, 2021 @10:06AM (#26285267)
Is Buffett really still the gold standard, Berkshire has been outdone by the s and p 10 year rolling average over the last evade and that was true before the pandemic.

I get that 20% annual returns aren’t sustainable as you get into managing hundreds of billions but it seems to me the make up of the market has changed dramatically over the 2010s and Buffett hasn’t adapted or evolved.

> had systems in place that effectively blocked the export of COVID-19 vaccines

You mean contracts courted and signed months in advance of you pulling your finger out?

> decries racist behaviors such as the “focus” on “getting the ‘right’ answer,” requiring students to “show their work,” and “independent practice” being valued over teamwork or collaboration.

Focusing on being correct is now a racist behaviour. God help us.

I find it nauseating seeing the financial press, politicians and big time players claiming that their actions and ‘concern’ is based on not wanting retail investors to lose money as a stock peaks. Be honest, you don’t give a shit and even if this was your motivation, people have autonomy in the markets, although sometimes naive, they know the risks. Stop treating retail investors as children that need saving when in reality you got burned. wolves in sheep’s clothing comes to mind
Re:Statement on New York Times Article on Saturday February 13, 2021 @09:34PM (#26129156)
This is the second article I’ve come across today lambasting the NYT for a hit piece, the second in my opinion is much worse given what the subject has been exposed to and has had to endure. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/ayaan-hirsi-ali-and-the-...

It seems the publication is in the midst of a takeover by woke radical authoritarians. It used to be that you should be cancelled and/or made a pariah of society for actual things you said years ago, now that’s not enough, they will go out of their way to form a narrative around you, whether the cap fits or not, in order to ostracise, they aren’t afraid to stretch the truth or outright lie. This is not unique to the NYT but it’s a concerning trend.

Like a TV? I just don’t see wearables for consuming entertainment catching on and having mass market appeal

Totally agree, though not unique to the UK and even more pertinent in most non-STEM subjects
Re:Europe's Vaccine Disaster on Friday January 29, 2021 @08:13PM (#25964989)
All parties up north responded in the same way to Dublin?
Re:Europe's Vaccine Disaster on Friday January 29, 2021 @07:54PM (#25964860)
It’s been a strange week. We’ve seen left and right unite against Wall Street and Dublin, Belfast and London unite against Brussels.
Re:AstraZeneca/EU contract on Friday January 29, 2021 @02:24PM (#25961247)
Perhaps you can point to what in particular the UK has done wrong on this vaccine issue.

With the EU introducing export controls against existing (and actually binding) vaccine contracts and now threatening war time-esque controls over production and intellectual property rights of private pharma companies, it is not AstraZeneca that this will cost big, actions like these are much much bigger than uk vs EU

It was a strong anti trump sentiment that united the democrats but it’s easy to forget that Biden is still met with some caution in his own party as being the establishment candidate, not necessarily a corporate stooge but no Bernie either, it would do more to dispel that within his own party.
