Re:Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2015) on Friday May 01, 2015 @01:53PM (#9473252)
Funding Circle, San Francisco

We're (seriously) building a better financial world! Our marketplace approach gives small businesses a fast, simple, and fair way to get the capital they need to continue to grow. We've lent over $1B globally, recently completed a $150MM funding round, and are investing heavily in technology.

We primarily develop in Clojure and Ruby (not so much Rails). We can do TN visa and H1B transfer and are focusing on growing our on-site team at the moment.

It would great to talk to people interested in working in Clojure(Script), React, Angular.js, and Mesos for frontend, backend, data science, or infrastructure roles to help us build a collaborative, professional, and diverse team.

You can reach me at [email protected] if you're interested in learning more.

You know that's still pretty shitty right?

Have fun.

The phrase "pick your battles" come to mind here, I mean, scream with rage?
Re:WebNES – A browser-based, mobile NES emulator on Sunday February 16, 2014 @07:20PM (#7249962)
I guess it is because controls are only setup for touch input.
Re:Nexus 5 on Thursday October 31, 2013 @03:17PM (#6649199)
I got an order in for the black 32GB version. No email confirmation yet though..
Re:Ruby Tips Part 2 on Monday September 16, 2013 @07:37AM (#6392718)
It could be more readable if you use a placeholder variable

  family, _ = socket.peeraddr
Which is more clear to me, but maybe not as much as just using .first
Re:Introducing Stripe UK on Friday August 16, 2013 @03:41AM (#6222677)
Take a look at what http://gocardless.com are doing with Direct Debit in the UK. Not sure what "mobile payment" really means, outside of in-app purchases?
Re:Do you need a degree to be a coder? on Friday August 09, 2013 @07:31AM (#6184970)
I'm employed as a software engineer, but I have a mechanical engineering degree.. What should I call myself?
Re:London Startup Map on Thursday August 08, 2013 @12:34PM (#6179999)
Could you share some of these reasons? High rent, high salaries I'm sure, but I'd be interested to know what other reasons have.

Have you seen https://www.quantopian.com/ ? Might be a good place to start.

Re:Unix tricks on Thursday March 07, 2013 @11:32AM (#5338508)
Another nice job management tool is disown, which lets you log out of your session without killing the job (similar to starting the command with nohup)
Re:Why Do Cars Have Brakes? on Tuesday February 12, 2013 @08:54AM (#5206685)
Perhaps we've driven beyond the metaphor.
I'm looking at building my company's CMS workflow with Jekyll so it's good to near this.

I'll have non developers creating and maintaining pages and posts, so I'm hoping I can build an easy workflow with just Jekyll and a bit of prose.io. I've not found any sort of site generator/convertor that's geared for use by non-developers.

Re:What Happens When A Twitter Client Hits The Token Limit on Friday November 16, 2012 @03:44PM (#4795736)
You may not be aware such a thing exists, but I'd consider http://www.freesat.co.uk or or even http://www.freeview.co.uk to be (subscription) free alternatives to cable TV.
Indeed, Imperial College London is similar in this respect.
Ah, I probably could have been more clear. I was expecting (hoping) for more information. It doesn't seem to have anything wrong, but it would be great if it was possible to get a more detailed version number, like 8.0.6001.18702.
Here you go:

Windows XP on Virtuabox

It's unfortunate that when using IE, both this and supportdetails.com only give versions as specific as "Windows XP" and "IE 8", whereas I get more detailed version info using Chrome on OS X.

I'm trying to track down an IE issue and would love for our support team to get customers to use something like this. But we need more info to make it easier to reproduce the problem.

Re:How to Participate in Hacker News on Wednesday January 04, 2012 @03:00AM (#3423260)
To participate in HN, you basically want to be sure to point out any logical fallacies, missing citations, and any possible reference to Godwin's Law, the Streisand effect, or the Dunning–Kruger effect.
On a mac, the a quake like drop down terminal (or as a prefer, non animated full screen) can be had with TotalTerminal, previously called Visor, but now without SIMBL, or iTerm2. I find absolutely indispensable!
Re:Xmonad 0.10 was released on Wednesday November 23, 2011 @01:38PM (#3271107)
Providing a reference for your joke doesn't really change much. I don't think you were downvoted because anyone thought your comment need citations, or because they weren't sure if it was actually supposed to be a joke.

Perhaps it was just a bit trite, and/or irrelevant.

Re:Twilio launches in Europe on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @09:46AM (#3158504)
Great stuff, looking forward to meeting some Twilio folks at the Silicon Milkroundabout this Sunday.
